Everyone knows that Polarbears love Butterscotch!....But they hate Cinnamon. Bonus points if you know what movie that's a play off of.
So my Klar Seifen arrived from RoyalShave today and I snagged it out of the mailbox and powerwalked straight down to the shave cave to give it a rundown.
Opened to box and was only mildly disappointed to see that it was dented in 2 places. One on the side and one on the lid next to the 1840. Not a big deal, I'm not super anal about that kind of thing. Plus it's got Polar Bears on it, that's cool, right?
First impression of the scent was that a name like "Klassik" was just about the only good way to go about describing this scent. It's very complex and hard to pin down and changes from out of the tin to being lathered. It's woody and masculine like Tabac, it's floral like Lily of The Valley and Lavender, slightly smokey and clean like La Toja. When it gets lathered it takes on a very green scent similar to RazoRock Zi Peppino which is described as a green tobacco scent. I'm obviously no basenoter, but you get the idea. Very complex, but not overbearing and quite enjoyable.
The soap is very hard, so I hit it with a few drops of water while my new brush took a quick dip and prepared to give it a whirl or 50. With my brush well shaken, I went at the tin of Klar for about 20-30 seconds
After about 45 seconds of lathering on my hand, dipping the tips back into the cup of water twice, this was the result. As you can see, the lather is very thick, rich and dense and very well hydrated. After taking this photo I worked the lather for about another 20 seconds adding water one more time before the lather reached it's optimal consistency.
I tried to get pictures that would highlight the density, stability and how wet and slick the lather was, but my point and shoot camera and shotty skills didn't really turn out so well.
The lather that resulted was outstanding, and this was all from my first time using it with hard water. I have no doubt that I could get it a little better than what you see here, but not to a great degree. This soap really is good. Anyone who knows me on here, knows that I'm always ranting and raving about how slickness is the name of the game for me. I love soaps so slick that provide glide so well that you can almost drop your brush if you're not careful. Klar shines in that regard and is very, very good.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with this soap. I can see while all those who have it love it, and say that it doesn't get the attention it deserves around here. I would agree with them completely. I would have to say that after only one use, this soap has worked it's way into my rotation.
I strongly urge anyone who has not had the opportunity to try this German masterpiece to give it a shot.
