I just got this off eBay. Its the Gillette Pocket Edition circa 1908.

It looks like you got the wrong razor. That's New razor. I have not shave with one, but I think it might be a bit agressive (taking into consideration the period it was made).
Do you have pictures of the outer side of the case?
As you metioned a 1908 (previous to the razor).
Does it have a "basket" type of design, or flowers?... there are a few pocket edition.
I can't find the link right now, but do a search on pocket edition, or abc pocket edition.

That's a very nice Bar Handle New, and it shaves wonderfully.

You are correct the case only is a Pocket Edition but the razor is from the 1930s

This is the common "New" razor that Gillette released in 1930 designed to use the new (modern) slot blades. It is the common head that nearly all New models used with the exception of the De Luxe model that was only made for a year. It can have either the long or the short toothed comb. Both versions give a wonderful, non aggressive shave. This handle is the one most seen on the more expensive razors in the line. This is the head that Bob re-plates and used with his custom made handles. This is also the razor that many here on B&B use as their every day shaver.

I believe a number of ball handle Old Types were sold in that case as well as the fancier ABC handle razors. The former should be relatively easy to find to make a more "authentic" set. Nice purchase though!

Thanks Guys for your wonderful inputs and now I know what I am getting. Since open combs are my favorite I am sure I will get an excellent shave.
