Plisson Question.

Nice gold Napoleon you've got there Eelco! Where did you get it from...?
It's most likely from the eighties...

Here is one I owned for a brief period of time (NEVER should have sold it). Purchased on ebay and it did fall a bit under the radar as I purchased it for $69.00 and sold it for the same amount. It had a glorious amber handle with the same Plisson "script". Wonderful brush! See this post for pics...

It was said to have been purchased in Cannes, France in 1973 by it's previous sole owner prior to my purchase.

Thanks both for your information.
Nice story about the 1973 Plisson brush.

Dr. P. I bought it in Heidelberg (Germany) in a little shop.
It was the last old Plisson they had :crying:

Regards,

Eelco

Is this the same brush?

There are a number of shaving items I have sold in the past close to 3 years in this hobby that I regret...that vintage Plisson is one of them. I hope the member I sold it to has enjoyed it. They got a great brush at a great price.

Just ran across this thread. I am still enjoying this brush and its in my regular rotation. Here's a pic of it still going strong from a SOTD pic I never got around to posting. It's a great brush!

I have one that's like Napoleon's Napoleon...I think that it may be an older version of the Plisson that Eelco has...not sure though

Anyone know if ours are real Plissons or clones?

Older version ? I think mine is from the 70's.
Best way to now 100 % send picture or brush to Plisson in France.

[QUOTE There is a metal ring around the knot, it's just not visible in the photo.

Plisson's Metal ring around the knot is quite visible.
It's a L shape ring (picture) View attachment 73509 , not a flat ring.

I wonder if they'd reknot it if I ask them for that service. That'd be sweet!

Also, does yours open up? Mine can unscrew open and the bottom part of the handle which comes off below the band in the middle is hollow

As far as I know mine can't unscrew, and the new models are solid and very heavy !
What Plisson did in the 50's or 60's I don't know. Maybe dr.P knows ?!

I discovered something funny !
Horn & Ivory don't have the "famous" metal ring, they also use a total different glue !
It's a black kind of rubber glue.

In the metal ring they use a white kind of glue.

If the bottom is black, you can't unscrew it !

If the bottom is Horn, you can unscrew it !

Don't try it at home !!!! This is as far as I know not a 100% proof science.

First you must know if it is a original Plisson.

My metal ring is no where near to yours L shaped one. Maybe they changed the design. And maybe they're knock offs:redface:

From what I've heard, you cant get Plisson just to reply to your mail, and than, even if they agree to reknot it, it will cost and arm and a leg:smile:

Ok, close this thread, I'd like to live in the delusion that I'm owning a Napoleon:biggrin:

Very interesting about the horn handles Eelco!
I sent Plisson an email asking them about my brush to see if it really is a Plisson. If their customer service is bad though, I may send another email in a few days. It's sad that companies as well-regarded as Rooney and Plisson are impossible to get a hold of...
