Please recommend me a Thater

My wife is going to buy me one as a late Christmas gift. I should say that I face lather 99% of the time, and I use soaps 99.9% of the time.
This will be my first high quality brush. My other brushes are my Semogue 620 and my restored Ever Readys with TGN Finest and Grade A silvertip. Out of the brushes I own my TGN 2 band Finest is my favorite. It is a 22mm knot set at 46mm. I actually love this brush, I think it will be hard for the Thater to surpass it.
I have heard so many great things about Thater brushes and I want to see what the hype is about. I just don't know which one would be the best suited for face lathering. I do know that I want the knot between 22 and 24mm and that is about it. I think I want 2 band but that is just because I like TGN 2 band knots.
I am open to any and all recommendations. Thanks.

I also face lather and use soaps most of the time. I have a Thater 49125/0 3-band and a 4125/2 2-band. Both are bulb shape. To be honest, except for the handle, I don't like the 3-band. It's nice for use with a soft cream, but I find it too soft and not dense enough for soaps. The 2-band is better, but I still prefer my Simpson and Rooney. YMMV, but I prefer a brush with more backbone than Thater.

If you do go Thater, get a size or 2 larger than you normally like if you go bulb in the octagonal handle. Although I favor knots around 22mm, I like the size of the handle and knot on the 4125/2 2-band Thater. It sounds huge but it's not.

Well I have 4 recommendations for the 4125/2.

And I got at least 6 PMs offering various other Thaters at a big discount off retail, saying that they are either too big for them or lack backbone.

And I got exactly 8 PMs from different members that advised against getting a Thater for face lathering. The reason they all gave was the same, too soft with a lack of backbone. Some even said that for what I am wanting TGN finest, Grade A silvertip and Super Silvertip would be superior to the Thater. IDK, that sounds impossible to me given the price differences.
I don't want to out any members that PMed me, but I do want to know why you PMed me. Why not just post in my thread. I asked every member that sent PMs advising against the Thater why they didn't just put their recommendation in the thread and got no response from any of them.
I think I will just have my brother restore me a few more brushes with the money the wife would have spent on the Thater. He can probably do 4 or 5 nice ones for the price of one Thater. And it doesn't seem that Thater would make a good face lathering brush.

Thaters are nice, quality brushes. I used a 4125/2 3-band and it was very soft, great backbone and lathered everything you threw at it. I was just not a super fan of bulbs. It did work well for face lathering so it was more of a cosmetic thing for me. I wish someone would PM me with great discounts. I have been wanting to replace it since I let it go :)

I have the 4125/1 Finest Silvertip and the 4125/2 in 2-band.
For face lathering, I much prefer the 2-band, it has more ooomph(backbone?). It's also my favorite high-end brush.

Thater 4125/1 2-band is a a very solid sized brush which you can't go wrong with. Size 4125/2 will be more luxurios, if you'd like that feature. Those 2-banded Thaters are not very dense but have some of the best flowthrough you can find. The good backbone, together with the bulb shape, don't allow the knot to feel too big on the face or floppy at all. It performs very similar to my Simpsons Tulip 2 2-band. What makes the Thater stand out is the unique softness, which is unmatchable by any other current brand. If you like soft, then you want one of the Thaters. The bottom line is it's a top performer with its own unique set of properties which has no substitute compared to any other brand.
