What's new

Please recommend a fountain pen with 1.1 mm or 1.5 mm nib..

I like my Lamy Al-Star (with a 1.1 stub). You could go with any number of Lamy pens that support swappable nibs.

I just switched over to a 1.1mm italic nib on my Lamy Logo that arrived earlier and I love it. The nibs are so cheap I'll probably end up trying out all of them, I believe there's a 1.5mm available too

The Lamy pens are a great choice. Since you didn't mention a price range, I'm going to suggest the Lamy Studio and the Monteverde Invincia line. I have both a Studio and a Stylus Stealth with 1.1 stubs and absolutely love them. These are both in the $70-$80 range as long as you don't go for the fancy finishes which will push the price above $100.

The Pilot 78G with a B nib is essentially a 1mm italic and worth considering. Fills from a bottle, cheap, easy to procure.

Something to think about if you can afford it is a custom grind from a BB (double broad) nib.

Just eyedropper it. The converter doesn't last long with that big nib! :)

Another vote for Lamy. I have an Al-Star and Studio, and love them both. Do know that the Studio is a pretty hefty pen.

I was going to buy a 1.5 nib for my Al-Star but because the prices were so affordable, I just bought a Safari with a 1.5 and now do not have to swap out nibs.

Love the Lamy pens and having a great time with the 1.5 nib.

+1 on Lamy pens. I own a Vista with the 1.1mm nib but like csmorris my next buy is the 1.5mm. For the money, Lamy is hard to beat.

Just for one more possible choice, I have a Kaweco Classic Sport rollerball, and bought a 1.5 mm Italic fountain pen section for it. Slight color mismatch, as the section is black, and the barrel is dark blue, but they go together well enough. The sections cost betweeen $11 and $12 at Jet Pens, and they have different italic sizes from 1.1 to 2.3 mm. You have to make sure that you get the right kind, as the ones for the AL sport don't fit the Classic Sport, but if you already have one of these pens, this is an inexpensive way to turn it into an italic. I like this one, although I admit I also got the 1.5 mm Italic nib for my TWSBI ROC 100, and like it even better.

Kaweco Sport ... forgot about their italic nibs! (Which is odd, since I love my Kawecos!!)

Aaaanyhow, the Sport and Ice Sport (Ice means white instead of yellow metal on the nib) can be eyedroppered ... but not the Al-Sport, what with its aluminium body and all ...

Good point on not being able to eye dropper the Al-Star. It is not an issue for me, but may be for others.
