Pinaud for Sensitive Skin

Hey all,

I'm a new member, just starting to get into classic shaving. I recently purchased a Merkur 180 Long Handle and am using Proraso Shave Soap Sensitive. I'm still getting accustomed to the technique and trying to get a close shave while not giving myself razor burn (my lower neck area has always been a HUGE problem for me). While honing this skill, I wondered if there was a good aftershave that you could recommend. I currently use Pinaud Clubman and absolutely am fanatic for the scent. However, it really dries out my skin since I have lots of skin issues (dry, easily inflamed, you get the idea). I was wondering if there was an aftershave for sensitive skin that had this aroma or something very similar. Additionally, I heard that I can use a balm after using the Pinaud to lubricate the skin while keeping the aroma of the Pinaud, is this true?

Thanks again for the help!

Pick up some nivea sensitive after shave balm and use that with the clubman. Might be the cheapest way to solve yoru issue for now.

You could always add glycerin.

There's your answer! Decant a bit into another bottle (just in case the experiment fails), then add a couple of drops of glycerin (available at most drug stores as well as WallyWorld for about $4/large bottle). Bingo! Clubman with great moisturizing properties.

This method will work well for just about any aftershave. It can even turn those designer "aftershaves"--mostly just the cologne that's been diluted--into a very workable and soothing splash. Just go lightly at first with that glycerin. It is surprisingly effective in very small doses. For 100 ml, 2 or 3 drops is more than enough. Too much and you wind up with a case of "the sickies"--your face will feel sticky after application.

Another suggestion is to get an unscented balm like Nivea Sensitive, and mix a tiny bit of Nivea and clubman in your hand before applying to your face. Instant Clubman scented balm!

$+1.gif...and I agree with many members here in that Pinuad Clubman (my one & only 'go-to' AS/Cologne is Citrus Musk), and other Clubman products can be drying upon one's face and body, but the addition of about 10 drops of glycerine per 6oz bottle greatly increases the moisturizing, toning aspects and 'kicks' this aftershave-cologne product line
'up a notch'.

Clubman is awesome. There's nothing wrong with using the Clubman first, letting it dry briefly, then using a balm like Nivea or AOS 'Unscented' afterwards. Try it. I've done this on occasion. Works fine.

Was wondering about the drying effects of AS and thought I'd have to only be a balm guy, glad I have some options and will keep up with the AS followed by balm suggestion...though I might pick up some glycerin down the road since it keeps coming up.
