What's new

Pinaud Citrus Musk....Wow!

Was going thru some older threads a few nights ago in the A/S forum when I came upon some postings about Pinaud Citrus Musk. I got a sample of Lime Sec a while back and was not enamored with it--so much so that Citrus Musk also would never be on my radar screen. But a lot of the comments were very positive about it being very light, crisp and clean smelling. I especially took note of the esteemed Nid Hogs' comments about it have a "freshly starched, laundry type scent"...Well, I just had to find a bottle of this stuff.

I can't believe I almost missed out on this. What a great light pleasant scent.. It really does have a fresh clean laundry/citrus scent and not in the least cloying or overpowering. This morning I had an overpowering urge to lather up some Foamy Lemon-Lime ( I know, kill me already) finish up with some Eau de Portugal on the face and a Citrus Musk chest splash. I achieved a sort of "shaving enlightenment" under the Pinaud (Bodhi) Tree. It was a great day indeed, gentlemen..

The great advice at B&B never stops! Thanks again, men. Two yrs. ago it was disposable razors and maybe some kind of an aftershave. Today the den is full and I'm broke--but my bathroom smells really good in the morning...

Ditto Marty! I'd be lost without all the input from everybody here. :wink2:

I'm a lime-a-holic, and I hear that the Citrus Musk is a lovely lemon/lime concoction with a slight (very slight?) quiet musk thing. Is that your impression too? Do you get Lime? I understand that the current Lime Sec is a very synthetic lime jelly belly.

Carl-

Yes you definitely get a good note of lemon/lime and in my opinion the musk is fairly muted. But--the descriptions of it having a clean laundry/freshly starched shirts scent is absolutely accurate. I find the lime scent also hangs in there for a good while.

Honestly-I was kind of repulsed by the current Lime Sec. To me it is sickeningly sweet and unnatural smelling....I love Lime scents but not that particular one.

Your screen name and avatar, by the way are fantastic!! I am of the age where I well remember Carl Kolchak pounding the typewriter at the City Desk!

cheers,

Really good scent notes on these, Gentlemen.

I kind of like Lime Sec in all of its over the top, artificial, lime lollipop glory! But to be honest I am not a huge lime scent fan.

I am a Pinaud fan!

The Citrus Musk really is nice, isn't it? i've moved mine out of the daily rotation for the winter, but we are having a warm spell--maybe I'll give it a run tomorrow. Goes well with Dettol Fresh cream.

Many thanks for the information Marty! My forthcoming buys for the new year are SIMPLE (because I spent too damn much last year!) - my list consists of Booster's Mosswood, St. James of London Cedarwood & Clarysage (both the shaving cream and the cologne), Proraso Splash, and finally the Pinaud Citrus Musk. And, that's it! Happily, this is only about 45-50 bucks worth of goodies and I'll knock one of the list every few months to space things out...

THANKS for the compliment on the avatar and name - Carl's my childhood hero! These days, I wind up putting in one of the two movies or an episode from the Kolchak TV series when I go to bed. Like old friends, Carl and Vincenzo rock me to sleep...

The Citrus Musk I have seen is labelled "Eau de cologne" rather than "After Shave." Is that the only Pinaud citrus musk there is and is that the aftershave?

As far as I know the only Pinaud Citrus Musk out there is lableled eau du calogne. It's pretty light for an edc, though. I would use it as an AS easily.

Pinaud has all kinds of different names for what they make, but I think that you have to just use them for what you like. They all seem to be halfway between an aftershave and a cologne.

I just got some of this. The clean laundry scent is very accurate.

I acquired some of it and Clubman Vanilla on Monday. To me, Citrus Musk (and to a lesser extent Clubman Vanilla) smell like the "green" Irish Spring soap. If you look at the ingredients in Clubman after shaves, you will find they are mostly the same. God bless.

I just received a ship of fine Pinaud products from Drugstore.com, Citrus Musk included.

Wonderful stuff. Some on the face, some on the chest, all citrusy goodness.

Finally purchased the Citrus Musk today and the Vanilla. Amazing - both of them. I passed on the Special Reserve which I know is a favorite of the mighty Nid Hog's - but will be going back for it soon. The SR has a great dry down to it. Cheers!

Don't pass on the Special Reserve. It's the best Pinaud of all.

Picture Lee Marvin in 1916, toting an '03 Springfield through the dusty heat of Summer day, making his way through fields of Tobacco plants. He's on his way to a showdown with some despicable yet charismatic warlord. It doesn't matter who or where.

As he grips the leather sling of the rifle, he's sweating off last's nights whiskey fueled, torrid tryst with a young Claudia Cardinale. The booze and her musky scent still linger as he takes off his campaign hat to wipe his brow. He grips the rifle sling tighter and thinks that it's not too bad a day to die.

As he emerges from the fragrant tobacco fields, there's Burt Lancaster, sitting at ease and waiting for him with a big grin.

"I thought our little partnership was over because of the woman", says Marvin.

"Amigo, love and war shouldn't interfere with each other. Besides, you still owe me a lot of money, and I can't collect from a dead man", says Lancaster, as he takes pull from a flask and offers it to Marvin.

"And you can't collect if you're dead" Marvin replies, ignoring the proffered bottle. "But why not die together, eh? That way you can keep an eye on your investment." He unslings the rifle and holds it out towards the seated man.

Lancaster smiles, grabs the sling and hauls himself to his feet.

That worn, warm leather rifle sling...if you could bottle it up it'd be Pinaud Special Reserve.

You gotta try it.

I'm going back for it this week! I had a hard time concentrating on any prose past the torrid tryst with a young Claudia Cardinale... But, brought myself back to my senses and finished your post. That's one helluva scene you've painted!

I will go back and buy the Special Reserve this week!
