PIF: Spreading Some "Goodwill"

Hear Ye! I am announcing a true "Goodwill" PIF for the month of November. This one is sort or a celebration PIF for me. I am marking my two year wetshaving anniversary (and about he same for the beginning of various acquisition disorders) and I'm coming up on my two year anniversary here on B&B. So, I would like to share some of the Goodwill that I have received! Here is the PIF and my motivation:

Awhile back I was researching and searching for info and advice on the forum about open comb razors. I was all over the place on what to try and I was really bogging down on what to do next. I found a Cadet for sale here and got that. That wasn't "getting it" for me so on I went on my search. A generous member here (and now good friend) ready my posts and contacted me offering a PIF of a Gillette Goodwill open comb razor. After some PM action and talking on the phone I received this generosity along with additional info on the history of the Goodwill and open combs in general. I was blown away by the PIF and even though there were no strings attached, I promised that once I tried out the razor and found what I was looking for (an open comb to settle on) I would want to P*** It Forward. So, here it is:

A 1930's Gillette "Goodwill" NEW Long Comb, ball-end handle with case (case is not original)

Here are the "rules" or my hope for this PIF:

I would like this razor to go to someone who is a member that has been "in the game" with wetshaving and as a member for awhile and does not have an open comb razor but wants to try one out. Post "I'm In" and share something of your story, what hardware you have been using, and why you want to try an open comb. That's it. I will leave this thread open through November. Good luck and Goodwill to you all!

I'm in. I've been wetshaving since August which has been long enough to realize that I won't be using carts anymore. I'm not saving any money on shaving but I really enjoy shaving now. I've been purchasing way too much stuff since I started this, but do not have an open comb razor. I tried a couple in a passaround box and liked them. I just didn't get enough time with them. I've been using an EJ DE89 and a Merkur 39c but would love to spend some time with a Gillette NEW. Thank you.

"I'm in"

Been wet shaving around a year with SS Red Tip and bleeding a lot. Through the fine folks here I have discovered numerous razors that I would like to try to find a combo that will work for me. Just won a lot of 8 off of eBay, but all were closed comb/bar style and half were duplicates, so I might be PIF'ing them right back to someone else that's in my shoes and doing the same thing I'm doing. Would love to try at least one open comb to even out the bunch. Win or lose, I'll post my results with each razor and probably ask for more help from people that own them.

Thanks Steve

I'm in. I've been "wetshaving" for about a year, but since finding this forum, I've realized that everything about what I was doing was less than optimal. I've now got brushes and software that I like and am beginning to experiment with the razor. I've only got an EJ DE89, which is good, but I've wanted to try an open comb as well as a vintage razor. This is both and would be amazing.

NOT IT, but that Goodwill is a very fine shaving razor. Milder than the standard Gillette NEW in my experience. It will provide anyone with a nice shave and a good foray into open comb razors. Nice PIF Steve.

I'm in. That is an awesome offering. I have heard great things about Gillette New and would care to own one. I like Gillette vintage razors but in my quest for the perfect razor, have not strayed beyond TTO's up to this point. If I am lucky enough to win this but don't like it, of course it will be re-PIF.

Ok, I'm in.

I want to start out by saying that if I say "I do not have an open comb razor", I would be lying. I do have an open-comb travel razor that was my grandfathers, but it doesn't get used. It being an heirloom is one reason it's not currently being used, but I've also tried to use it. I found it to be quite light weight, and as such did not have the heavier feel I was looking for when comparing it to my more full-sized razors. And so I would love to try a more shavable open-comb, and experience the "magic". lol

Ooh, what a great and generous PIF! I'm in!

I started wet shaving with a 34C in August, and then ordered a Weber a few weeks ago as I found the 34C had a little trouble on my coarse upper lip. (And to try something with a touch more craftmanship.) The 34C is now fixed and on loan to a friend who I am trying to recruit into wet shaving.

Anyway, I would love to try an open comb on my thick ol' beard, and see what the vintage vibe is all about.

Cheers!

Hi,

Not In, as I have an OC collection growing, but....

NOT in....as I have my hands full with my Techs but that is a lovely razor .....

Haven't been wet shaving long enough for this, or to even understand what's good about an open comb... But very nice PIF.

I'm in! Have been wanting to try a OC. Been thinking I need one but I have sensitive skin and don't know how they shave. Wonderful opportunity to find out.

I'm in! You, sir, are a generous soul. I've been wet shaving for two months, now, mainly with my Merkur 180, which is my only DE. Lately I've been giving the SR a try, with a Gold Dollar and a strop, but it's slow going. Thank you for this offer!

I'm in.

i shaved with a DE in the 1970s and into the '80s -- did so quite badly, used gel and had no clue about reasonable technique. Somewhere along the line I switched to cartridges, until this year when found Badger and Blade and have been learning what I should have known years ago about a decent wet shave. Still, I've never tried an open comb razor and have been really wanting to check out the experience. Thanks so much for giving someone this opportunity!

Current hardware: Weishi, EJDE89lbl, '53 40s Style Super Speed, Pre-War Fat-handle Tech.

I'm in! I've been DE shaving for about 7 months and will never return to cartridges/disposables. I have an EJ89l and recently purchased a 40s SS - nice little razor. I have a coarse thick beard and would like to try something a bit more agressive since I have my technique down. I have never tried an open comb- and the Gillette NEW gets a lot of love around here. Thanks for your generosity!
