What's new

Picked up a couple of new razors`

Got a Merkur 38c, 12c and a Tabac shave stick.

Up to this point, the only razor I've been shaving with on a regular basis is a merkur slant - a nice, close shave, but I always paid for not being extra careful - either with cuts or razor burn.

Merkur 12c - Agressive, similar to the slant, but different. Gave a close shave, but I had to work to get it. I dont like the spiral knurling on the handle, it wants to turn the razor in my fingers.

Merkur 38c - A real pussycat compared to the slant and 12c (especially the slant). There is a big gap between that big safety bar and the razor, which allowed for some slop in the shave, which allowed me the enjoy the shave much more. Got a real nice shave the last three times I've used it with no skin irritation. Still hate that spiral knurling on the handle though. I'm going to replace it with an Ikon or Bob's Razor Works handle and I'll have the perfect razor for me.

Tabac Shave Stick - Pretty nice. I noticed that I had to really work the lather on the face to get rid of the "chunks", if you will, that were left on the face otherwise the razor got clogged up real quick. I found that if I worked the soap up a bit with my hand prior to the brush I got a real nice lather. You probably dont even need a brush with this stuff as the hand works just fine. The more I use Tabac shave soap and stick the less I care for the scent. Headslick is still my numero uno for pure shave performance.

The barberpole merkurs 12, 38 & 39c are 2 piece razors the handle is integrated into the lower part of the head so you cannot change the handle only on these models, no solution as far as I know

Wow, you'd think I would have noticed that! I checked the Merkur line-up and it appears all of their newer available razors are 2 piece?
