What's new

Penhaligon's "Anthology Series"

Just what we need, right? More Penhaligon's. There was a news flash on BN earlier in the week. Apparently they're going to re-introduce some discontinued fragrances starting in October. I liked the sound of the verbena since I like the note, but its not listed in their "d/c'd frags" list on BN.
I'm also curious about thier packaging. Every Pen's product I own is in a labeled bottle with a bow around the neck. I got a partial bottle of Castile with a plain, etched bottle that has a braided cord rather than the bow. Does anyone know if they're updating all packaging?

I saw the new bottles when I went to Saks the other day. Honestly, I can't remember if they featured bows or braided cords -- there was something, tho. They weren't plain bottles.

The other thing I remember is that the box the bottles come in is black, totally different from their other boxes and very slick-looking.

I'll try to get back to Saks over the next day or so. Will let you guys know what I find out.

Dang it!

Just what my bank account needs, a Penhaligon's "Extract of Limes" cologne!

Anybody get a whiff of this stuff yet?

Do you think Penhaligon's will give out samples of this to somebody who already got samples of their other fragrances?

I just checked TPC and they DO have decants of these scents available. The one I'm interested in is the Eau de Verveine....here's their description:

"Penhaligon's Eu de Vervaine is from the Anthology series, launched in 2009. Originally created in 1949, Eau de Verveine is a grassy aromatic, with citrus and woods. The scent of an Indian Summer, shimmering heat haze, soft metallics, crumbled herbs, spices, musk and vanilla. In the distance echoes the evocative promise of rain."

I believe they're asking $3.50 for a 1ml sample. I don't understand their pricing on Penhaligon's because, as far as I've seen, their scents are all priced the same (this 'new" series is a bit less), $110/100ml. For whatever reason, TPC asks more for Quercus and Racquets
.

I was expecting that the Penhaligons Anthology series was going to be at a much higher price point than the regular line....the Penhaligons site has them going for for 95 pounds, compared to 70 for the regular. As the Anthology series is not yet available on the site for US shipping, the US pricing isn't shown yet. I am expecting 150 US dollars, but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised! Anyone have any current info on US pricing of the Anthology series?

I found a price of $95 by googling. I can't remember for sure what site it was.

I would really be surprised if these end up listing for 95 dollars, considering the 95 pound list price in the UK....if it does, I hope all the Brits start ordering from North America to get a huge bargain!

I've seen the 95 pound price listed on all the usual sites that come up through searches....here's to hoping that Penhaligon's doesn't use this new series to test Creed-like price points here in the US.

I see London's has these in stock. The price has been jacked up to $130. I shall pass!!

Has anyone smelled the 2 new additions to this anthology?
"Orange Blossom 1976"
and
"Eau de Cologne 1927"

i will be going to smell all the new pen scents next saturday (april 17) at a place about an hour from me. i have a feeling my credit card is going to get maxed out. ive heard nothing but good things about the anthology set

I'm going to offer a partial contrary view. I got samples of both the Extract of Limes and the Eau de Verveine. The Limes is nice, but to me there's something just off in the Verveine. I think it's the "soft metalics" aspect they mention, which to me was quite unpleasant. The Verveine starts off ok, but very early on in the drydown goes of the rails, at least for me.

I think the word "nice" downplays the Limes cologne by quite a ways.

I would say it's wonderful, or amazing. Almost, but not quite, magical.

Yeah, big fan of the limes myself. But it's a hot weather scent, fersure. And now I have to check out these new ones! Maybe I'll take a walk over to Saks this evening ... altho they probably don't have them in stock yet.
