Pelikan M800 Tortoise

Has anyone bought this pen yet? How does the pelikan nib write, compared to a montblanc pen width? I am debating selling off a Visconti Homo Sapien to finance a Pelikan Tortoise. It is a lovely pen, im just trying to decide for a fine or medium nib.

My Pelikan M215 medium nib writes finer than a lot of Western mediums for whatever that's worth. I'd take the Tortoise over the HS.

Pelikan gold nibs are pretty close to Montblanc nib sizes, maybe just the tiniest bit wider.

The M800 Tortoise only been out a week or so. I do know of one member that has purchased one.

The Tortoise is not out yet, but places are taking orders. I have mine pre-ordered. As far as the M800, the nibs write fantastic! I ordered the Tortoise in a BB because I had a BB I had a custom grind done on. I have a stock Medium that is one of my favorite nibs to use out of anything I have. As smooth as can be and a bit on the wet side.

I'm not sure I'd want to grind any of my Pelikan BB nibs, they seem like sweet and juicy stubs out of the box!

You do now

I knew it was Dave, I just didn't want to spoil his fun!

I really like my M215's medium steel nib. How do their gold nibs compare? I'm guessing the gold is broader?

Geez couldnt even wait for the group buy, Id imagine we could have got 1 maybe 2 people total right out of the gate for this and maybe got free shipping out of it

I didnt even know there was a possible group buy. Darn my impulsive buying and enabling members!!

Lol I don't think there would be many people into a group buy at that price, and I don't think the vendors would offer much on a brand new guy like that might have been able to swing a brand new ink cart pack to be thrown in lol

Enjoy the new pen Isaac. That's a bold "my first Pelikan" choice and one I'm sure you won't regret. Gorgeous pen!

+1 Congratulations, Isaac!
i have an older Pelikan 400 with a F nib and compared to the M200 that i got, also with a F nib, the 400 is so much smoother.

Im just a bit worried with the M nib. I have always been a F guy, but have started to gravitate towards M and B nibs. Im sure it will be fine.

I don't know if this will help you at all. A writing sample from a couple of Pelikan Nibs I had at the time.
This is on Rhodia paper, and the Edelstein ink is not a dry writing ink.

It looks like going from, say, a steel medium Pelikan to gold medium Pelikan nib is like jumping up a nib size. A medium gold writes broader than a medium steel? Is that about right, Dave?
