Pelikan M205: What Do I Need To Know?

So My Jinhao was starting to give me fits I ordered myself a Pelikan M205

View attachment 283338

This will be my first piston fill pen, anything special i need to know with regards to flushing or maintenance with it ?, And i believe you can swap nibs out on these like the Lamys, is that correct ?, i just saw threading in the nib section that made it appear that way ?

Since its for work i thought it would be a good fit with it holding a good amount of ink, and being able to see inside to know when to add more ink to it is good so i dont run out at work, but this one isnt a "disposable" chinese veriaty pen so Ill have to be a little more cautious not to drop this one !

any thoughts or comments would be appreciated

thanks Guys

Welcome to the world of Pelikan, the awesomest pens in the world! I'm not familiar with the 200 line, but I think it works just like all Pelikans. You can flush it by working the piston, but I always unscrew the nib to flush it. It's just easier and more thorough, and less wear on the piston seals. I think it's going to hold plenty of ink for you, and it's definitely great to see exacly how much you have left.

Yup, it's like any other piston filler. When you want to change inks, definitely flush it pretty well. I tend to use a cup, twist water in, twist it out, once the water is saturated i empty and repeat, after about 10 or so repetitions I start to just put the nib in water running from the sink and another 2-3 times and it's running clear.

Very easy to maintain in my opinion.

Nibs are replaceable. M200s come with steel nibs and they're very smooth. I'd like to get an italic nib for mine, but I just don't use it often enough to justify the cost right now.

The M200s are quite small. But still comfortable in my opinion.

I bought mine before the price hike, and mostly got it for that reason. I had no real intention of using it a lot, but wanted one without paying a fortune later on.

I have to pocket it at work so i didnt want anything to big,... big pen means more of a chance a heavy part will catch it and snap it in half inside my pocket lol it may still happen but ill lower the chance with a smaller pen,... i just didnt want anything as small as a kaweco sport

Thats what i was hoping to hear,... if the nib unscrews then flushing the pen body will be a snap to do,.. and the nib i can still flush with the bulb syringe or the other contraption i have here

Good choice James! Excellent info already given. Remember though, some of the highly saturated inks can cause discoloration.

What you really need to know is that you bought one of the world's best pen designs.

Yes, not only the piston mechanism, but the Pelikan pen as a whole has remained relatively unchanged since the late 1920's. The M205 is almost identical in dimensions and look of the 400 which was introduced in 1950. There's a reason it is so successful.

Happy first Pelikan!

James, since getting my M200 I don't see myself buying another converter pen. Welcome to the club.

Well, then you should consider a ...

,... i just didnt want anything as small as a kaweco sport

... nevermind.

Through this entire thread, and I don't think you mentioned the size nib you ordered! I have a 205 with a broad steel nib that writes great!

Congrats on the Pelikan! Don't start yelling at us when you need more of them!

Lmao Dave I got a fine point I was pondering a medium... then all day couldn't remember which one I went with after all I had to double check

You're going to love it. I tried out a 20X series pen for a while and I fell in love with Pelikans. Beware--it's a gateway drug!

Crap... it's bad enough when someone gets their teeth in you.... but a self inflicted enable just hurts that much more lol

I have a M200 and a M215. I love them both. I keep the 200 inked with Benevolent Badger Blue and the 215 with 5 O'clock Shadow. They are my daily drivers at work.

You know you have it bad when the waiting is already hurting and your product hasn't even shipped yet... y'all are awesomely horrible

But you got to love it

syngent, I just got the identical pen, and hit "publish" on a blog post about it about five minutes ago. Although not much of a review, you can see a few pictures of it Let us know how you like it after you receive it and use it for awhile.
