Pecksniff's

In my ongoing quest to obtain and hoard shaving soaps, I have happened upon a make I have not tired. Pecksniff's. Do any of you gentlemen know if it is tallow or tallow based?

Pecksniff's is UK-based company known for their fragrances. I've not used any of their products but I believe their shaving cream is a "hard" cream, much like Castle Forbes.

Their website doesn't show a full ingredient list (at least, my cursory glance didn't detect one). However, since the blurb about their cream touts "glycerine" & "allantoin" as flagship ingredients, I'd be somewhat surprised if the creams are tallow-based. But hey, you never know.

I don't think so. The Pecksniff's website only lists shaving cream, made from glycerin and allantoin. I've seen here references to this product as a "hard cream", or in effect, soap.

Maybe what you've seen referred to as soap is really their cream?

Where did you see it? :biggrin1:

There was also a thread a while back on one of the other shaving boards about Pecksniff's shaving cream (which has a near hard soap consistency - by design). I don't see anything on their site about a shaving soap.

Hmmmm. Perhaps I mistakenly asked about a non-existent soap. But thanks your answers nonetheless. They save me from asking in the cream forum.

The soap (the call it a cream but it's not) is actually glycerin and SLS based. Loaded with SLS with a huge chemical-heavy ingredients lists. That's why I decided to pass on it. Their colognes are worth checking out though.

I have the Fougerge version of the shave "cream". Indeed, it is hard as a rock. You lather it just as you would a normal shave soap. The smell is good but a bit synthetic. The lather is good too and my face always feels great after the shave. It IS loaded with a detergent base. I like it okay but rarely use it. I got it on sale but can't remember the price. I would not necessarily consider buying it again.

Regards, Todd

Agreed...but I bought some anyway, after much effort I couldn't get decent lather out of mine, looks good but best avoided.

Who carries Pecksniff's products? I've heard good things about their scents, but never seen them offered by any of the vendors I use.

BeautyEncounter.com carries Pecksniff's. I've ordered a tub (?) of their fougere cream/soap - I'll let you know.

It was expensive, but I'm in the serious throws of a terrible SSAD....

I also ordered one of their last refills of Woods of Windsor SS.

...and eshave avocado oil & linden SS refill puck.

I'm terribly terribly SSAD'd.

I'll let you know about the ingredients (of all) and, eventually, how they perform.

Check ebay. There is a seller with some Pecksniff's products on there at discount prices. I bought two bottles of cologne and had no problems.

Otherwise, I have experience with BeautyEncounter and they seem to be fairly reliable. I believe Luscious Cargo also carries the Pecksniff's product lines. Other than that you can order direct from the UK.

Good cream Can be bought at TK Max in the UK for £7.99

Yes I bought the "Leather" scented "Shave Cream" there at £7.99 and was pretty annoyed when I opened it to find a rock-solid, difficult to lather block with a vaguely chemical scent.
