Palmolive stick (Euro) Good gear!

After trying Irisch Moos in the Australian Travelling Box I managed to find a local vendor with one in stock: to make the free shipping I chucked in a Palmolive stick (Euro) version.

First shave today and I'm happy with it. Good clean scent, easy lather-ability (rub on stubble/apply brush) and a really nice comfortable shave with appropriate comfort and slickness. Razor was a Fatip Grande and fresh 7 OC Yellow blade. Rinsed clean, face feels fine. Wanted to say that for a purchase that was an afterthought this stuff really impressed me as to the marked difference between it and the non-tallow Australian version.

I like it better than Arko (sorry, I'll go sit in the corner now...).

I love the euro Palmolive stick, my Arko went bye-bye after I tried the Palmolive. Good clean scent without smelling so much like bathroom cleaner. Very nice performing lather also.

Mad Man, take the dunce cap off and get out of the corner. Both Palmolive and Arko are high quality shave soaps. If you had said that (US) Modern Williams was better than Arko I could see needing a time-out but Palmolive performs great as long as you soak the tip for ten minutes or so before applying it to your face.

That's exactly what I did (soaking the tip) and the stick effortlessly coated the beard.

I'll get out of the corner now...:thumbup1:

Bit off topic, but how did you find the fatip grande (trying to talk myself out of buying one)...

Palmolive is a great soap, but I find that it disappears in my rotation - I must get it on deck again soon.

It lathers like crazy!! Easily my favourite stick, although I want to try Valobra some day.

Hey Brendan,

Bought the Fatip from Shaver Shop (I know, I know...) on an impulse last year. Had been toying with the idea of an OC and read that the Premax (what SS call the Fatip) was an aggressive OC. $40 bucks later I got a nice short-handled little razor with good head bias weight-wise and a finish that approximates Merkur's QC more than EJ (some minor tool marks, finishing imperfections, nothing serious). Blade alignment is no issue but Feathers in it really hurt me so I tend to use Astras, Gillette Goals or, as today, 7OC yellows (bought a few packs after sampling one out of the box). Being an OC with quite a bit of blade gap it's got a lot more of a wider "sweet spot" than my EJ 89 unshimmed and is as aggressive as the FB or Slim opened up if not more so. It's my "Monday Shaver" as the OC does short work of 2 days of stubble and then I revert to the closed combs or adjustables for the rest of the week. It's a close shaver mate - it's 10.20 in the pm and I'm still just feeling stubble that usually appears closer to mid-arvo. The Ogallala Bay Rum stings a bit post shave with the Fatip but that's just me and cavalier technique I think...

Thanks Paul, sounds like a similar experience to the Gillette open combs I've tried.

BTW, pulled out the palmolive for tonights shave!

The wife's investment
Palmolive shave stick makes great lather. I'm not real excited about the scent, but it is running neck and neck with the likes of Wilkinson Sword and Speick.

I was in Germany this week & I was looking in supermarkets for Tabac & Speick shaving soaps, I couldn't fine them anywhere but kept coming across the Euro Palmolive.

I was reluctant to try it as the Australian version is not much chop.

Im glad I did because the Euro version is top notch, I bought 8 sticks for just over €1 each, I saw them elsewhere for far less than that too.

I have only used it twice so far but it is superior to Tabac,MWF & Arko in terms of ease of lather ability so far.

Its 3.20 am & I'm jet lagged to hell hence why I'm reviewing Palmolive now.

Don't be sorry, Euro Palmolive makes Arko look like a joke. It is on the level of Speick except in one area- scent. Speick smells glorious to me.

My two sticks were Speick and Arko. A German co-worker had a friend visit the states for Christmas, and he brought two sticks of Palmolive for me (he paid the equivalent of 90 cents a piece in Germany). I then sent to the Arko to someone who really wanted to try it.

I used it almost three weeks in a row before I remembered I had other soaps- I can see how it can disappear.
