Palmolive Bar Soap

I shaved tonight with Palmolive bar soap, the kind you get in a 3 pack at the dollar store. I'd noticed that it was exceptionally sudsy in the shower, so I thought I'd try it. Loads easliy, lathers well, pretty slick with a little cushion. It does break down a little quickly, but that could be fixed with less water in the lather. All in all, not bad, gave me a good irritation-free shave. For 33 cents a 3 oz bar, this could easily be the best hidden value in soap.
Plus, it smells great.

Update:
Got a great lather today with a small to medium amount of water and a couple of drops of vitamin e oil. Very Williams-like, but smells better. I'm loving it.

Next on your list should be Ivory soap. It used to be advertised as a shave soap.

Check the forum archives. Ivory as more than just a bath soap is a repeater here. When I started shaving, I used whatever soap was already on the wash stand. I owned the "proper" tools, including Old Spice shave soap, but had so few whiskers, I got by with minimal preparation at first, and Ivory was as good or better than any other bath soap.

I haven't seen Palmolive bar soap on the store shelves in quite a number of years, but some kind of spillover from shaving has affected me, and I've been trying various different brands in the shower lately, after using the same one for 10-15 years, at least.

Palmolive shower soap is not commonly available in the US to my knowledge other than the OP's find in NYC but Connaught sells a UK version that is supposedly still on the shelves there.

I can get the Palmolive soap from Family Dollar, and Dollar Tree here in Michigan, so I wouldn't say it's exactly rare. Pretty sure I have seen it at Big Lots too. It normally goes for the bargain price of 3 bars for $1.

It's a pretty good bath soap, but has a rather unique scent. I would much rather use Yardley at $1 per bar, as the scents are way better.

I will look for it. I haven't seen Palmolive shower soap in years and we do have both Family Dollar and Dollar General less than two miles from my house. I don't remember it being that bad of a soap.

Well, I don't think that the Family Dollar near here has Yardley, nor does the HEB Supermarket (if the Family Dollar Store had Palmolive, I didn't see it). I'm pretty sure my nearby Walmart doesn't have Yardley. Where do you get that from these days?

Yardley Bath Soap, I get from Dollar General, Dollar Tree, and I am pretty sure Family Dollar. Walgreens, and Meijer have it as well.

What I was saying, is that I would rather use Yardley as my bath soap, over Palmolive, as the scent of Palmolive is not stellar; sorry if that was unclear.

I get Yardley Bath Soap and Palmolive Bath Soap from the Dollar Tree as well. The Palmolive bath soap is what enticed me to get a Palmolive Shave Stick and some shave cream. It smells nice and makes great lather

That sort of thing happens, and somewhere recently, I said that although I used the same bath soap for maybe 15-20 years out of habit, I've begun trying different bath soaps since joining this forum and being constantly reminded that men are allowed to enjoy smelling good, and using pleasantly scented products without being any less masculine. There is both a Dollar Tree and a Family Dollar within a couple of miles of home (Family Dollar is within bicycling distance, if I still had a bike of my own -- maybe 10-12 blocks away).

I'll check them out for both bath soaps. Dollar Tree had the Yardley; interestingly, all of that store's shaving supplies was removed from the "Health and Beauty" corner where they formerly had been, so I don't know if they had any SE blades, but CVS did not (although they DID have the Yardley soaps, for $1.79 a bar).

Several of the bath soaps make good shaving soaps. Zest, Coast, even Dove (although I sometimes have a reaction to Dove). I face lather with them and have no problems with them lasting through the shave. Just build the lather as normal. I think it is kind of fun to experiment around. You find some things would wouldn't normally consider.

I switched from Dove to Palmolive for two reasons. The first was price. I could get 6+ bars of Palmolive for 2-3 bars of Dove. Second was the smell. I was curious as to how close the Palmolive smell was to the Palmolive shave stick. Its not close at all, but the bar still has a pleasant smell. Ive used it a few times to lather with. Its not bad at all. You have to keep it a bit dry, but ones you get it right, its a super bargain. Cheaper than Williams, and lathers 50 times easier...

I work in an Auto Service shop and Palmolive is a grease and grim slayer. Im out right now and the next time I get some I'll give it try for shaving.

You have to keep it a bit dry, but ones you get it right, its a super bargain.

That's it right there. The lather reminds me of a Williams lather, but you need waaayyy less water. Keep it dry and enjoy.

I get my Palmolive at Dollar Tree. 3 bars for $1.

If your local Bed, Bath and Beyond has the new personal products/ grooming section, they should have Palmolive bar soap and Yardleys cucumber/ oatmeal & almond/ english lavender.

I use Col. Conk Amber, Williams and Omega in my rotation. I would compare the Palmolive most closely to Williams. I tend get an airier lather with them, but with some cushion and definite slickness. The Conk might be my favorite in terms of a combination slickness, cushion and scent. With the Conk and Omega I tend to get a thicker, pastier lather easier than with Williams or Palmolive, but I don't think the latter two are difficult to work. It's definitely worth a try. If you don't care to shave with it, it's an excellent bath or hand soap.

I was hunting for an older style of photographic "gadget bag", with its multiple pockets and pouches, to keep all of the cords, cables, chargers, spare memory cards, etc. all together, not necessarily to carry everything around with me. I checked lots of Thrift Shops, without success. One such was near a Dollar Tree store, and although I couldn't find where that store's personnel had put shaving stuff, nor could the cashier tell me, I did get the three bars of Palmolive. I do remember the color, but not the scent. It's unusual, neither bad nor good, although distinctive in a sort of forgettable way.

I've been curious about what happened to Williams Mug Soap, and compared the new and old list of ingredients. Interestingly, I am looking at Palmolive Soap's ingredients, now.

Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Cocoate, and / or Sodium Palm Kernelate, water, Glycerin, fragrance, salt, Hydrogenated Tallow Acid, Titanium Dioxide, Pentasodium Pentetate, Pentaerithritl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, and color dyes. That very last monster of a thing before dyes is not in Williams Mug Soap.
