Ok, so my palm pilot tungsten e2, wont advance the week easily. got it used off ebay had it two years or more. so time for a replacement. I only use it for the calendar functions and small telephone listing.

what is a cheap replacement that will sync up via a usb port with outlook. i dont mind something that is an older model. dont need pic or song storage. just take it to court to input court dates, etc.

Not knowing if you're using GSM or CDMA, I would suggest a Palm Centro as it has a keyboard and can be purchased cheaply. Otherwise there are the Palm 600 and 650's. You could opt for a windows mobile smartphone such as the Samsung Jack, which is relatively cheap.

What's a Palm Pilot?

Sam, good luck on finding a PDA. It seems everything is moving toward smart phones. Check out ebay for old stock or used PDA's.

I know Andrew

If anyone has a link, PM it to me if you can not post it in the thread. I have a Blackberry but dont want to use my phone as my calendar. I like the standalone that I had with the Palm Pilot over the paper calendar, and convenience to put it into a suit coat pocket and run out the door. I dont think I need a lot of storage and dont care about pictures or songs or multitasking. Just a way to replace a paper calendar and check for conflicting court dates when in front of a judge. Cheap works for me

The advantage of the Palm is that the stylus is easier to use for inputting the stuff. The blackberry keys are so small. Smaller display also. The one I have, when I go to advance the date up top, the forward arrow at the far right won't advance anymore.

Until I can find something, how do i sync between my computer outlook and the blackberry? Is there a cable they should have sent me?

I've got a couple of older ones at home, if I remember I'll dig 'em out and see if they still work. One is an old Handspring Visor, 8 megabyte I believe, and the other is a Palm, can't remember the specific model on it. never has the color screen.

I'm with you, I want my PDA separate from my phone, though that is getting harder and harder to do anymore. I still use my Tungsten T5 daily, although I think it's about to die, and my Zire 71 which I love to death, but had to let my wife use in order to "justify" the Tungsten

I would go with the Handspring Visor. I used one for years and liked it better than the other Pilots.

I dont think they make standalones anymore. Not one listed at Office Max. I may have to just use the blackberry after all since I have one.

My wife got a Blackberry and loves it. As a result, I "inherited" her Palm e2! I actually really like the calendar on that thing. My main beef with it is the 1 gig limit on the SD expansion card, so as a music player, I can have a decent number of songs on there, but nothing like 8 Gig card in my LG Chocolate 3.. (over 1600 songs!) - so yea, I'm doing the sparate PDA/Phone thing right now, but both of them double as MP3 players.. go figure.

She use it for a calendar? I guess I can run to the Sprint store and get help. I already have the fone, lol. Just that the keys are so dang hard to press. Can clean it up by going to Outlook on the computer and syncing it that way. Guess they will tell me if my phone came with computer connection. Well, off to the Sprint store to see. May have to come back. That I touch, my daughter has one but says she uses it.

You'll pick up a good used Ipaq from eBay with a few accessories for very little money these days. It's worth getting one with Bluetooth and WiFi so you can hook into the internet and send and receive files easliy. The HX 2795 is a good one.

I knew there was a reason why I like low tech. Came home, and went on the Internet and found the download for Palm desktop manager. Downloaded it and transferred Palm data from the handheld to my laptop computer. Could not synce Palm desktop to Outlook on laptop. Then got the Blackberry CD and downloaded Blackberry desktop manager. Called Sprint and they transferred me 5 or 6 times and each time I had to give my account, pin, and explain the problem again.

So I gave up. Two hours wasted. Will take the CD and try to download it into office computer and then sync Outlook (it works between the Palm and Outlook on the office computer) and see if I can get the Outlook into the Blackberry at the office.

As someone pointed out to me, I sometimes am not at the office and dont carry the Palm so I have to say sometimes, call me tomorrow so I can check my calendar. I can probably start checking it right on the phone, maybe even while I am on a cell call with the Blackberry

I know I owe some replies to PM's but let me see how the Blackberry does tomorrow.

I wouldn't get a Blackberry for myself, I do not like the keyboard at all.. but my wife loves having it all in one package.. phone, calendar, email, etc.. she's got more stuff to keep track of than I do...

A few years ago I bought an HP Ipaq for my wife for Christmas because she wanted a PDA. But, she claims she specifically stated she wanted a Palm Pilot, and she did not like the HP at all. I loved the HP (it had Wi-fi..), but she didn't so back to the Covey store we went and picked up the Palm Tungesten e2, which I am now using..

but if I'm in the market for another PDA, and I can't find a phone/pda that I like (I hate the data package you have to buy with it, thanks Verizon..), I'll check out the HPs again..

Last one I used was a Palm TX 100. It was great and when used with a large SD card, it was a media powerhouse that could compare to an iPhone. Be careful if you want to buy this one though used, there was a problem with the digitizer on some models and it would stop working. If you're looking for this particular model, make sure the screen still works and/or has recently been repaired.
