OverstockPurfume.com

Anyone have any experience purchasing from "overstockpurfume.com"?

Legend on their web site says not associated with "overstock.com." Graphics in many respects seem identical to FrangranceX.com. No idea whether that means they are related or one is stealing graphics from the other.

Excellent prices if this place is legit, not that they have the "hottest" fragrances. No Floris, Creed, C&S, Pen's, etc.

Overstockperfume gets no love on basenotes. Scented monkey, scentiments, beautyencounter, fragrancenet are good places to look. I don't know about overstockperfume from personal experience. Just checked references before ordering. Good luck, John

EDIT: How about that. After finishing the response below I checked my e-mail and according to UPS a package has already shipped. Maybe posting on B&B is effective! Or maybe all is straight up at least for this transaction. We will know soon!

Thanks, John. Said to be a sister site of 1stperfume.com, which has a pretty reputation over on basenotes. Experience seems to vary a bit more with overstockperfume.com, but if these are the same owners, that would be random, I suppose.

We will see how it goes. I have made a relatively small purchace. Like I said, no exactly buying Creed anyway. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and won' sweat it--yet!! I'm not usually a good person to screw around with on this kind of thing, though! I can be pretty persistent and I pretty much know my rights.

Pretty obvious thing to check Basenotes before ordering, although I kind of remember doing that. I guess I missed the sister site reference.

Thanks.

When you go to basenotes, search "the big list of online stores" which will give you a listing of sites, stores and opinions. And/or do a search there on the specific site you are interested in. I would add a link here but I don't know how!! Good luck, John

Thanks. I got enough from the threads over there to get an idea that there are any number of folks that are not happy! I will see what turns up in a few days. No reason to raise my anxiety level over what may turn out fine and that I am not going to do anything about anyway until the package gets here!

Again, many thanks!

I agree! Have noticed that while some sales sites are "unloved", people still report getting good product from them. From what I have read the biggest problems involve customer service (lack of response), returns, and low-balling with product they don't have to begin with.

I think you are right. Seems like some supposedly reputable sites low ball with scents they don't have. I do not understand the way scents are sold anyway. Clearly Creed has some distribution issues if they really expect their stuff to sell for "list price." Somehow sellers are getting some great prices on some nice fragrances to be able to sell them for what they do.

I've only looked once, and discovered the product I was looking for (marked "in stock" was unavailable when I tried to order. I was curious and tried a couple more....and got the same thing. I emailed them to inquire about this problem, and no one answered.

In scents, as in most things, you get what you pay for.

Thought I would report back on my experiences with overstockperfume.com.

I ordered on a Sunday evening on their web site and selected whatever the cheapest shipping was. On Monday they called me early at the office apparently to confirm the billing address for my credit card and the "ship to" address, my office, which are different. Good thing they did, I had typed in my home zip code for the office "ship to" address. All very professional, courteous, friendly.

I received the package via UPS ground at my office a bit before 5:00 pm today, Wednesday, so that is some fast shipping. Well-packaged, ec., although I did not find any hard copy receipt or any paperwork at all.

All scents in good shape and apparently authentic and fresh: Tabac 3.4 oz spray edt, Caron 3d Man 4.2 oz spray edt, Caron Yatagan 4.2 oz spray edt, and G Beene Bowling Green 1.0 oz edt. I do not think that anyone is going to bother to forge any of these anyway. The Carons have Arabic writing on the bottom of the cello covered sealed boxes they came in, along with English. Everything else on the box is in French.

Unless something goes wrong with billing or something, I sure could not be happier. This place has its critics over on basenotes, and perhaps for very good reason. It is under the same ownership as 1stPerfume, which really seems to have its critics.

But it does not get better than the transaction I just had with them! Simply excellent prices. $22.99 for the Yatagan, for instance.

Did the products appear to be in good shape, and not stale (old)?

Yes, all of the packaging seemed crisp and new--vibrant color and the like, no worn spots, dust, nothing yellowing or fading--with the possible exception of the Boweling Green, which has kind of a corragated cardboard tube packaging. The paper labels over the corragated cardboard were completely intact but maybe peeled away from the tube in couple of places. ALso the very top of the tube, which is plastic, might be a little rough and/or dusty as if it had set out on a shelf previously, or maybe just had gotten jostled around in a case box over time. This is understandable as I do not think any new Bowling Green has been manufacttured for say a full decade or more. Packaging still in very, very good shape though. Smells very fresh. No loss of top notes that I can sense, for instance. Actually the BG packaging, although intended to be aesthetic, I am sure, really is very protective of the contents.

In the interests of absolutely full disclosure, the Tabac box was not sealed in cellophane like the Caron boxes, but the closures seemed very tight with no evidence that it had every been opened, but nothing glued shut or auything either. And when I opened it the brown cap on the spray bottle seemed to have a light oily like coating on it that was like finger prints. Very light. Not thing obnoxious. And I think it was something that was natural from the factory or from being in the packaging or something. There were no actual finger prints or smugs, and the coating seemed too, too smooth and consistent to have come from someone's hands or from being wiped with any thing. Whatever it was wiped right off and did not leave any residue. It did not seem old or anything.
