What's new

Ordered my 2nd brush in 2 years

So when I started out wet shaving I purchased a Simpson B4, and have been using that as my one and only brush for a few years now. I have been able to face lather and bowl lather with various soaps/creams with success. Although it somewhat lacks with hard soaps.

Since I mainly use soaps, and after much research, I just ordered a Semogue 620 brush. I noticed that this brush has received a lot of positive feedback in it's ability to load soaps and face lather. Here's my question though:

Even when I bowl lather I would like to have a brush that can load soap well. I'm thinking a good boar with backbone, but a loft/length that works in bowls would do the trick. Maybe SOC? So for all the Semogue users out there, is the 620 a good brush for occasional bowl/scuttle lathering?

The obvious answer is 'no, buy more brushes' :biggrin1: But I'm likely going to be looking for a good soap loader that works well in a bowl/scuttle in the near future. VLAD, earmuffs - although I love face lathering, I do enjoy making a bowl of lather occasionally.

I have two 610s which are the same size as the 620, I find the 610 brush about the perfect size for face lathering. I have used the 610 for bowl lathering, but I prefer a larger brush when I use a bowl. It works just fine though.

The larger SOC is a great brush for both face and bowl lathering. The B&B Omega boar brush works very well too.

I have the Semogue 830 which is the same handle as the 620/610 but a bit loftier. IMHO, the 830 is an acceptable brush to bowl lather, but I don't like it because I tend to clang the handle on the bowl when I'm whipping so I primarily use it to face lather nowadays. I have the Semogue OC Special Edition which has the same style handle and similar loft to the regular SOC Boar and the SOC SE is an excellent bowl lathering brush and an exceptional face lathering brush.

I hope this helps even though my experience is not directly related to your question.

Thanks. One of those two or the B&B Omega will probably work. Boy, I really hope I don't catch the brush AD bug...

The obvious answer is 'no, buy more brushes'.

This suggests a false dilemma, i.e., find a brush that's good for occasional bowl/scuttle lathering or buy more brushes.

There's an easy solution: find a brush that's good for occasional bowl/scuttle lathering and buy more brushes too.

I just recieved the second brush I ordered in two weeks. Before that I used a Tweezerman for five years.

When I clicked on this link I thought it would say "Ordered my 2nd brush in 2 weeks"

The Semogue 620 is a great brush, but please be aware of the fact that it will take some breaking-in before it will perform at it's best.
