What's new

Orange Lips?

So I stopped by my favorite smoke shop and picked up a tin of Eileen's Dream by CAO and a Capri bent saddle bit pot. I loaded up half a bowl and the smoke was fantastic.

Here's the rub......

I ended up with an orange spot on my lip from the stem!!!!! It was the with of the stem and had a very acrid, bitter taste. It took some mild effort to wash off.

Has anybody else run in to a new pipe staining their lips?

Give the stem a good cleaning just in case. Could be something on it that came off when your lips got it wet.

Are you sure it wasn't the new Cheetos CAO flavor?

Lol!

After giving the stem a little tongue.... (I can hear Archer yelling, "Phrasing!") test, that is, I deduced that the stem tastes like regular ol' pipe stem flavored stem.
What tasted like the snozberries was the tip of the bit.

I was just putting the pipe up to my mouth and puffing instead of sticking the bit in and puffing.

So, in conclusion:

1. The smoke caused the orange

2. Proper smoking technique is key

3. Don't lick your pipe, you may not like what you find when you get to the Tootsie Roll center

Could be from stain on the inside of the bowl. I know some Petes come that way. Is the inside of the bowl reddish or orangish?

The inside of the bowl is sort of orangish. So I guess that solves that.

I was going to ask about the gurgle, but decided to take a look before I posted. Is all this because it's a new pipe?
I assumed breaking in the pipe was just going to be cake building, not leeching stain from the inside of the bowl.

And of course now it dawns on me that I should have picked up some pipe cleaners.

You can clean out the inside of the bowl with some everclear and pipe cleaners or cotton swabs to remove the stain in the bowl.

Regarding the gurgling, your tobacco may be a bit wet. You can either dry it out a bit before smoking, or just pass a pipe cleaner down the mouthpiece into the shank to absorb the excess moisture while you're smoking to take care of it. Also, if its gurgling, try smoking a little slower to allow some of the moisture to burn off.
