Open Comb vs Closed Comb....

I find that the "open comb" razors tend to be more efficient razors and provide a closer, better shave, with less effort.

I agree. I struggled little bit when I first received my 11C, as I had only been using a super speed to that point. However, once I got the hang of it I was hooked. I find in particular it does a much better job on my neck than the closed comb of the super speed.

I get a closer shave with less strokes, with for me equals less chance of irritation.

I think the general consensus is, open combs are more aggressive. I believe this is because many of the open combs are antiques, made for men used to a straight. I read this EXCELLENT post, which explains what variables are possible in safety razor design, and that open combs are NOT inherently more aggressive http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=162987
