The older Autostrops are open comb and give a great shave
This one takes the Feather blades
The older ones take a SE blade with the spine removed
My Star lather catcher open comb...its a great old razor and it takes a standard SE blade

Sled---That star is sweet--looking
All of the (Valet) Auto Strop models except the very last model (from the '40's) are open comb. The older models can use a despined Gem blade. The later models take proprietary blades (either vintage blades or the modern Feather SE).

I have it and its my fav---edging out the OCMM
Is there much difference between a closed comb Damaskeene and open comb? I'm have a closed comb and get great results from it.

I just feel the OC Damaskeene gives me a closer shave---but I feel that about most razors in general
The open-comb Valet will give you about as aggressive a shave as you can get anywhere in my opinion. Depending on the angle, the shave can be a little more or less aggressive, but it's not one to use if you're in a big hurry in my opinion.

Thanks--I think I will give it a try because alot of people are reccomending it---It takes the feather spineless blade?
