What's new

Only used blade 1 time - how do you store it? How do you mark it?

What do you do with blades that you only used once - how do you store them? / mark them to know that you only used it once?

Wondering what different systems people have come up with?

I normally leave the blade in the razor till I am done with it.
if I do switch out a blade I just lay it on the box of razor blades.

I, too, just keep it in my razor until it's time to change it out. I have seen guys use dice to keep track of how many shaves are on their blades. That seems elegant to me.

How does the dice work?

Also, might be helpful to explain myself more, I plan to try out a lot of blades over the next two weeks - I plan to use each blade for 3 full shaves or more - but I am anxious to try each one out, at least once, and then come back to it to finish out shaves 2 and 3 so I can really see how the blade performs for me.

So I will end up with a lot of blades that only have 1 shave on them...

I'm a little confused by the question...sorry. :001_smile

When I use a blade I leave it the razor until it has died. For me that's a weeks worth of shaves. But, if I decided to swap out the blade for another one for some reason, then I just lay it someplace safe. Or I wrap it in the paper wrapper of the blade I am replacing it with and put it under the pack of blades in my cabinet. I might even put it in another razor.
But there is no confusion about which blade is which because I don't make it complicated. I don't swap out multiple blades at one time. Only one...this way I can keep track. That is why am a little confused by your post. I may be misinterpreting it but it sounds like you have too many to keep track of. (?) If so....why?

]I use a document on my computer to keep track of how many shaves are on each razor and it's loaded blade. I have discovered that a new Feather is only good for five shaves for me. After five, I notice it has lost peak performance.

I love the dice idea, but will always keep a written document.[/B][/COLOR]

The die is placed with the number of shaves on the blade facing up.

I assume that you are new to DE shaving, correct? If not, please ignore the following.

I want to caution you against your proposed idea. Trying lots of blades and switching things around quickly when your technique isn't solid can be a very frustrating thing--you don't know if the good (or bad) shave was the result of the blade or you. This can lead to needless irritation, frustration, and blood. Keep things simple at first--one razor, one blade, one soap or cream, one brush, and one aftershave. That way, the only variable will be your technique and you will be able to easily see if you're on track and progressing, or if you're slipping back into old habits.

It's your dime and your face, so the choice is yours--just be warned...

I use one brand of blades (Personna Red), and I keep each blade for 4 shaves (unless there is a reason to change sooner). They tend to become too dull for me on the 5th or 6th shave. So by changing them after 4, I always know that I get the optimum performance from them.

Tommy, thanks for taking time to respond - in short - I am going through my blade samples and I want to quickly try out the 1st shave with all of them, then I plan to return to them for shave 2 and 3 (after I cycle through my samples with 1 shave)

Guess I am like a kid in the candy store who just wants to take one bite out of everything..! :)

Yeah, remember how sick you felt after you did that, though? Maybe you even threw up...

...Just sayin'...

Maybe I am too much of a noob but I leave the blade in the razor for the 3 or 4 shaves I use it then toss. I am not experienced enough to swap out blades and probably would only confuse myself as to what blade was shaving better. Or, I'd cut myself handling the blade so much.

I am guessing are more experienced and are comparing shave 1o f each blade... Perhaps using a supercomputer to track all the variables. :)

Wingnut, that makes a lot of sense - thanks for the warning. Also, you have given me lots of good advice in different threads over the last two weeks - thank you...! Wanted you to know that I have been listening to you and putting your advice into practice...

Yes, I am new, about 4 weeks in (with 20 years of wet shaving) and I spent the first two weeks exclusively with feathers. I REALLY liked the shave I was getting, but wondered if maybe another blade could even be better for me... Which leads me up to where I am today, anxious to try my samples out...

Ahhh...ok. :001_smile

When I was new to this and had my sample pack I used one blade until it was dead. Actually, and this took patience, most times i would use a whole pack before moving on. I wasn't just sampling, I was "learning."

I leave it in the razor, put the razor away and immediately forget when I put it in or how many times I used it.

Toothpick

Needs milk and a bidet!
9/10 I toss em in the blade bank.

If I think I can get a comfortable 2nd shave with it I'll leave it in the razor.

If I think I can get a comfortable 3rd shave with it....I think again and load a fresh blade.

If you have multiple razors loaded, those dices actually are a good idea! (I only change razors when it is time for a new blade anyway)

The razor blade stays in the razor. Since I own quite a few razors I forget how many times each blade has been used. I used to keep a simple text document log but even that I would forget to update. Finally, I just tried to memorize how many times each blade was used. When I am uncertain how many times each have been used I can them. Since most of my blades are bought in bulk and are cheap it doesn't bother me to throw them away faster then they should be.

No storing or marking. leave it it the razor until discarded. I use a few (that's code) razors in my rotation. i change razors and blade after 4-6 shaves then start over.

I really like the dice idea... I actually just broke these out because now I have a use for them. I knew I was saving them for a reason... Thanks Wingnut :thumbup1:
