One definitive scent

I may be crazy for saying this, but I personally prefer to find just one scent that I feel defines me (currently Zirh Corduroy), and I wear it all the time. I tie people to smells, and I find it confusing when people smell differently from day to day. Therefore, I try to keep my scent consistent to avoid causing similar problems for others. Is anyone else like that?

I used to, although it was really just a function of what I had on hand. If I bought one bottle, I'd use just that. If my wife gave me another, I'd have a rotation of two. Now I have six or eight that I use regularly and a number of others that come and go. I agree with what you said about tying people to scents. Maybe now I'm trying to throw them off the trail?

I am not confused by the smell of people (unless the smell is bad, then I am confused as to why they don't shower).
I have several in rotation, and I use whatever strikes my fancy (not that I particularly enjoy having my fancy struck).

I do something similar. I have a few scents that I wear pretty much based on the seasons. Spring and summer I tend to lighter fragrances (Aqua di Gio, Lacoste Essential) and then in fall and winter I wear some heavier/richer scents (L'Occitane's Eau de L'Occitane for example). I occasionally stray from these few, but I like the idea of a sort of signature scent too.

I get the same feeling when my wife switches shampoo (feels like I'm having an affair for some reason).

Also, as Jim Gaffigan points out, whenever I change deodorant brands it feels like a stranger is following me all day.

I'm with you, Amspratt...but I think it's more like a couple definitive scents, depending on the occassion (office, evening, etc.)

You, sir, are having way too much fun.

I suppose EDT's could be looked at like shoes. You wouldn't wear the same pair of shoes to church as you would to a 4th of July BBQ, and I suppose you wouldn't want the same cologne either.

I understand where OP is coming from, but I do prefer variety. There are some women I do tie to certain scents.

I'm happy to be the guy that always smells great.

I use only two different scents each season*. That way I still have a definitive scent but also not get bored. I then have a few scents I will wear if I go out at night and for special occasions.

*The seasons are broken down as Fall/Winter and then Spring/Summer.

Are you a bloodhound? lol. I really can't see how it could be confusing if a person changes cologne from one day to the next. I'd be really interested to hear you elaborate on that. Like if one of your co-workers switches up his cologne on Tuesday it totally throws off your routine and you can't concentrate for the rest of the day?

As much as I'd like to have one signature scent, I enjoy rotating my 8 or so scents too much. I do try to keep a consistent office scent and reserve the rest for everything else, though.

Besides, why waste Green Irish Tweed on co-workers? :biggrin1:

Overall, I like variety but occasionally will stick with one for several days, especially if it's plentiful or inexpensive. My wife would probably consider Brooks Brothers 1818 definitive because I wear it a lot.
Other wonderful scents might be signatures if they were not so expensive or scarce. Guerlain Derby comes to mind. I use my bottle sparingly.
