About Our Classic Hot Lather Shave

During the process of creating the AMERICAN HAIRCUTS® concept, we did tremendous amounts of research to create the best hot-lather shave available. During this research, we personally recieved shaves by some of the most resepected barbers in the business.

In our research, we discovered (gasp) that the straight razor didn't always give us the closest, most comfortable shave. We've found that modern blade technology is so advanced, that the triple blade razor provided a shave as close as a well-honed straight edge with a far greater level of comfort.

Sure, those Spaghetti Westerns and Gangster movies would lead some to believe that there's a certain macho danger in getting a straight razor shave, but this is about relaxation, right?

Like the AMERICAN HAIRCUTS® concept, our shaves combine the best parts of tradition and technology. We start with two applications of hot towels, pre-shave oil, and luxury shave cream, followed by a professional shave with a high-tech triple blade razor. We finish with more hot towels followed by our signature menthol cold towel and post-shave treatment.

Our Classic Hot Lather Shave is like a 30 minute vacation. Many of our clients make this service a regular part of their grooming regimen. It's a real treat!

OK, so if this true, then why am I getting better shaves with a DE? Why did I give up the multi blade shavers for a DE? If this is true, then why do I not have irritation, and razor burn all the time? I am sorry to say this, but I like my DE and I am not going back to a multi blade shaver again. I want to work up to a straight and some day i just might. :) Said to say but that sounds like an article that would be written for Comsumer Reports. :)

That just made my day.

EDIT: I forgot to add in that, by the feel of my face, I'd say that the straight I used was CONSIDERABLY closer and more comfortable than a Mach 3. These people have obviously never shaved with a real straight.

Now now, don't badmouth high-tech triple-blade razors! I saw a high-tech triple-blade razor rescue a baby from a burning building once!

those people saying "but i get a better shave since changing to DE", maybe in changing the hardware you also changed your technique, which may have given greater effect.

people at my work use cartridges and are always very clean shaven and rarely have irritation.

im often tempted to buy a cartridge and test it for myself :001_smile

i know this is heresy

I'll second that at the chance of being burned at the stake. A lot of people (not all) get fine shaves with carts for a lot less effort than with a DE or straight. They pay for this with their money as well as their pleasure. I enjoy wet-shaving as a hobby, but have no illusion of its complete supremacy. Wet shaving takes more time, more effort and often times even more money than just grabbing a disposable and a plastic tube of goo (AD's are a b**** on the wallet ). I think my DE, and soon to be straight, shaves are superior in quality, but the way I used to shave was always adequate for my needs. I used to drive an automatic sedan, and now I drive a manual coupe. Both got the job done, but the latter is a little more fun.

On another note, I still think that video is mretzloff posted was pretty lame (even though Aiden Gill is a sponsor of the Carnival's grande prize and I thank them for that). That kid was like seventeen. What kind of growth could he be sporting? I'm much more impressed with this guy

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAHHHHHHHHH...Stop, stop... my belly is hurting me after so much laugh. Nothing as a good joke to start a nice day!!

Yeah, right...one str8 blade will irritate my skin...but wait... maybe if i use 3 blades (of inferior steel quality and dull after 2 passes) my irritation will disappear!! And it goes better with 4...someone said even better with 5??

Damn. His beard melted off. Despite the few cuts he gave himself, that's ridiculous. Looks like the water in his lather must have been really hot too because he winsed when he put it on his face, lol.

Dude was boiling his brush on the stove with a lid on the pot! First pass on the neck: Against the grain!!! That's either the sharpest razor ever, or that guy is covered in shark skin. However, he did nick the bottom of the soul patch area.

This should make you explode with joy: I do very well with my 5-blade cartridge. "Shave Secret" oil just before using shave cream does wonders. I can shave in the shower and get done in a decent amount of time. You can have your hobby or cult or whatever, I can have my efficiency and be pleased with it.
