Omega vs. Jaguar brushes?

I have an Omega 10048 Professional Brush. Was wondering how Omegas compare to Jaguar boars in terms of performance and quality.

Don't know anything about the Jaguar brush, but I do know it's really hard to beat the Omega boar brushes for performance, quality and value for the dollar spent.

I have an Omega 10098, and Jaguar 1071, 1056 and 236. Like the Jaguars a lot and to me they are comparable to the Omega, but this is very personal. I prefer handmade, so I use the Jaguar 236 (I like that one best; the others I do not use at the moment).
BTW I also have a Turkish Omega (nothing to do with the Italian Omega, AFAIK) that is a nice little brush too.

I have a large Jaguar brush. The long boar bristles work very well to create a nice shave cream with soaps. The long bristles are floppy. It appears to be a bit thin in the center of the bristles. The overal quality of the brush/handle is not in the same class of even the least expensive Omegas. Since I like the bristles, I called Tony at the Golden NIb to question him about shortening the bristles and making a tighter knot. He told me he had never done that before and was not sure how to go about it. I read about using O-rings to shorten shaving brushes bristles. As an experiment: I did not want to spend any money so I cut a 1/2 inch piece of bicycle tube to put around the bristles. The tube was small enough. It pinched the bristles to shorten them and create a denser, stiffer brush. If I could shorten the bristles to around 50mm and install them in a better handle, I believe I would end up with a stiffer brush that would make a great lather.

I have to add that I paid around $10 for the large Jaguar brush. It would have been better to spend $9 at WCS for one of the 49's or $14 for the better quality boars.

That may be why the small 236 is my favourite, it has a different handle, that fits perfectly in my hand and the knot is about 2 inch high.

I love my omega brush and actually prefer it to my other (far more expensive) badger brushes and always seem to come back to the omega as my favorite brush.

If you are going to do all of that, you may as well just get an Omega brush. They are very reasonably priced.

Jaguar brushes are okay. They're not as dense as many of Omega's brushes, which isn't necessarily a bad thing just different. However, they don't seem to pay as much attention to quality control as Omega. It's not they'll fall apart or anything like that, it's just that at least the one I had had some cosmetic imperfections.

Long story short, you're better off with Omega or Semogue.

Turkey is a Muslim nation and they will not have anything to do with pork or hog products. The brushes I think might be horsehair. I have the 236 and the brush does not display characteristics of any of my boars although it makes a great lather.

They want in the EC :wink2:. AFAIK the Jaguars are boar. I also have one or two Turkish brushes that are horse. They are nice too, btw.

As far as I know, they are of Turkish origin. If you want to prove otherwise, then feel free to do so.

I have the Jaguar 236, and its very nice for its price...in my opinion it performs better than the Semogue 1305, but 1305 is prettier. I agree in the thin center, but this doesn't affect a thing. It lathers shaves and creams easily, I have even created lather with cold water with great results. I never tried Omegas, but the JAguar 236 looks are better for me.

Turkey, while majority of population is muslim, is a secular country and they have pig farms. While in last several years lot of farms have been closed due to stricter rules on hygiene, they are still farming pigs for industrial purpose as well as for large number of atheists and non muslim part of population who eat pork. Turkey is not a theocratic state like Iran or Saudies, very different.

Not true. Jaguar boar ( domesticated pig actually ) are made in Turkey.

Totally agree with Matt about omega vs jaguar. Also advice to read his perfect explanation about jaguar brushes in review section.
Jaguar brushes made in Turkey. I dont know its hair type exactly but it seems to me boar(i will sent email to the company and will post their reply here soon ). Also most of the population is in Turkey but here is no hard rules like other middle east countries. I mean it can be boar or horse hair. btw there are many foreigners living here and eating pork so we have some pork farms here too.
Regards.
