Omega shaving Brush Professional Boar # 10098

I have not used that exact handle, but have the Chromed ABS handle model, with the same or similar knot. I think the model number is 10048. They are top notch Boar Brushes. Mine just murders soaps. After the first couple months, it becomes a better brush, with soft tips, but still plenty of backbone.

I picked one up a few weeks ago, along with a couple other Omega boars. It's a big brush, and a bit on the stiff side, but I really like it. It's quite the Williams tamer...:wink2:

I just recommended it in another thread (but had forgotten the model #) and I'll say it again... a very good brush. After 2-3 weeks of "breaking in", numerous shampoos and immersions in ultra strong aftershave to tame the disgusting smell and over the top stiffness, it dethroned ALL of my badger brushes.

I was ready to toss it the first few times I used it... wouldn't even lather Tabac well... but I kept at it and found out that you don't have to shake most of the water off like a badger... just a little shake and start lathering. Also, it doesn't shed a lot.

I won't be looking for a new brush anytime soon.

I find the knot to be wonderful but the mass of the large knot at the end of a very long handle makes the brush field like a paintbrush. If you want that size of knot--I myself prefer something smaller--than I would go for a #49.

Yep, I'm surprised to say I'm a fan of the brush. For $9, there's no better brush out there. It's huge though -- not suitable for travel. Still, I really like it. (and the #98 is larger still??)

Indeed the #49 is a very large brush.

The #49 is a 25mm knot, with a loft of 63mm. Total height of 126mm. The #98 has a 27mm knot, and a 65mm loft. Total height of 145 mm.

It would appear the #98 is certainly bigger than than the #49.

Egad. That's huge. However, as I said, I'm really pleased with the #49, so I won't say it's overkill to go larger. It does make my Semogue 1305 look a little puny. Plus, the 1305 isn't a particularly dense knot, so that partly explains the better performance in the #49 -- more bristles.

Ooohh, with all the love the semogue's have been getting around here lately, I was afraid Omega's had been forgotten.

I wasn't expecting much from the Omega, but it's definitely better than the 1305. I'm interested in the 830, but that's $30 I don't want to spend at the moment. Richmondesi absolutely loves the Semogue 2009 limited edition, but of course, they made less than 100 of those!

Guys,

I went with Omega 50107 Professional Boar Shaving Brush this is my 2nd Omega shaving brush the other is a Omega Badger shaving brush #6619 (75th year anniversary)

I've been looking at the 10098, and I was wondering if there is a way to have the same brush with a handle as large, but a nicer and perhaps heavier material? Or is it nice and heavy enough. I'm currently using the badger proraso branded brush, and I believe they are similar, but I have how light and cheap my handle feels.

I like the 98, it was one of my first boar brushes.
The balance is right, seems to lather well and feels nice splaying or painting over my face.
At the price it's hard to go wrong.
I haven't started losing much hair yet, but maybe I haven't used it hard enough or long enough to see that behavior.
Good Hunting!
