Omega Boar Brushes

I want to buy a Omega boar but I have a few questions about them. Browsing online the brushes range from $10-$25. What's the difference between a $10 Omega and a $25 Omega? I can buy one at a drugstore in my area for about $13 but I was wondering about these other brushes that cost more.

The higher priced ones, like the 31064, have solid acylic handles. They feel more substantial and are a real improvement over the hollow handles on the cheaper brushes as well imo. The knots are also different. The dyed, sketched bristles of the 31*** series are very soft and the perfect size. The knots/bristle on the other brushes are also very good, and its possible you will prefer either. I have four Omega boars. My advice would be to just go for the slightly more expensive one first - you wont need another.

I had a few customers buying the Omega 10066 (a brush the cost something like $10) and then have me remove the knots and make decent handles for it.
The knots were set into handles like the Emilion and Duke. Must say they look much nicer in the new handles. A lot of boar lovers out there, but not much boar brushes that have a nice and substantial handle.

Bingo! Boars are seen as "cheap", and most are relegated to using extremely cheap handles. However, TGN is selling some of the Omega knots - the 22mm and 24mm of their more expensive 31xxx and 81xxx series, if my memory serves.

My Omega 31020 that was purchased at WCS has for all purposes replaced all my expensive Badger brushes. The handle has a vintage look and has a very nice hefty feel. I also have the Omega 81052 and yes it is very nice looking brush but there is nowhere near the heft of the Omega 31020....YMMV!!

+1. The 31020 has a wonderful handle. Quite possibly the fav of all my brush handles.

Are there any smaller Omega brushes with good handles? I like the look of the 31's, but a 25mm knot sounds too big. I have a 22mm silvertip and it's a little on the large side.

Besides the weight how do the brushes compare performance wise?

The 25mm boar will feel smaller than the 22mm badger. I feel the knot size on the 31*** series is perfect :thumbup1:

Hope somebody chimes in on this one.
My first brush was the 31025, couldn't be more pleased with it. The 31XXX series seems to be fine for soaps and creams. Face lathers like a dream too.

Edit: +1 to what Ignatius said. I think that the measurements for the Omega knots include the black ring around the bottom that holds the hair. Thats what it seemed like from my understanding of the Golden Nib knot page anyway.

The 31025 & 31020 look to be the same brush but with a different coloured handle. Ah so many to pick from. I want to buy ONE boar brush now it looks like I'll be getting a few.

Before you decide on a boar, please look at the Semogues at Vintage Scents. I have a number of them and they are great. Excellent quality and reasonably priced. I believe you will find then to be wonderful.:thumbup:

Echo that! The 1305 & 830 are both very good brushes. IMO, the 830 is quite like the 31064, only better.
