Omega and other boar brush Inquiries

Hello Gentleman,

I have three brushes. VDH Premium shave set brush (not a fan), a tweezerman (not so bad) and the Omega 46065 brush that comes with the Omega set.

I absolutely love this brush. Just enough backbone to show soap pucks who wears the daddy pants, the tips get softer by the day, and it feels like it's able to hold way more lather than when I first got it.

So after GRUC 13 is over, I'm planning on getting a higher grade boar brush. But I have some questions;

- Is there a major difference in the boar bristles of Omega (and other companies' level of boar brushes?)

For example, with my untrained newbie eye, the only difference between the 46065 and let's say the 10083

appears to be the handle.

Then there are some that look a little bit different like the 11574, but I don't know if the fuctionality changes between these three models.

So, could someone extrapolate on the differences, if any aside from the handle.

I appreciate your time greatly and look forward to hearing from the B&B brush pundits.

Just a died ring to make it *look* like badger.

I want boar to look like boar. I LOVE my Semogue 1470. Eats soap, and is soft but tons of backbone. Better every shave!

Get Omega 49 and you will be all set. I have a dozen of more or less expensive brushes, but my $9.00 49 gets 90% of usage.

So it's safe to say that the only difference between these omega brushes is the handle? That and a died black ring. Does this apply to all boar brushes?

I have used both the variants from Omega, the banded boar and non-banded boar. I have the following Omega brushes:

- 46065
- 10099
- 10218 (Banded Boar)

After using all the three I have noticed a few differences with the banded boar or died black ring. The banded boar has softer tips and bristles comparatively, but the backbone is similar. I felt that 10218 was a wee bit more comfortable on the face than the other 2 brushes.

I would suggest going with the banded boar since you already have the non-banded one. Hope this helps.

This is very helpful. After doing some reasearch it appears that clipped boar brushes usually don't split at the end, making it a little stiff on the face. Whereas unclipped brushes tend to split more and become softer over time. I'm guessing that the banded brushes may be unclipped and provide a softer experience.

I've been face lathering with the omega brush and it has been amazing. When I put this brush in a bowl I feel as if I don't get as good as a lather. It just kinds of slides around the bowl and never really explodes the way it does when I face lather (usually using VDH deluxe, Godrej soap or William's)

Can anyone speak for other companies? Does anyone have multiple Semogues or Vulfixes?
