Omega 49 Pro for face lathering?

I was looking at picking up this brush as my first boar. I am a face latherer and am a bit concerned that this brush might be a bit big for that. Any other face latherers use this brush or does anyone have any suggestions for a boar that would be good for face latheting?

Thanks!

The 10049 is a bit large for face lathering. I do it anyway, but it's a little awkward. Speaking only for brushes that I have, the Semogue Owners Club, Omega 81052, and Omega 10066 all do fine. So does the Boreal 322, but mine is a shedder so I can't recommend that model.

That is one bad a** brush my friend, I use it almost daily and the thing just gets better n better. I use it on my head and face, and to me it is one fine brush that makes and holds more lather than a man can use in a single shave. I recommend getting one, and you wont be disappointed !! TMHO.

The Semogue's look nice...any US retailers carry them?

If you like the general look and style of the 10049 but think its a bit too big, have a look at the 10029. Its basically a scaled down version of the 10049.

I have one, and it suits me for face lathering.

Omega shaving brushes are very good indeed. Anyhow my favourite boar brushes are the Semogue. For face lathering I'd recommend the SOC, the 1800 and the 1250 models.

Thanks for all the suggestions...I dropped some hints to my wife on the SOC brush...good looking brush!

As part of surviving my DE shaving "boot camp", for two of my sons friends, I am building them a shave kit as a Christmas present. I got the 49 Pro in red and black and will let them pick.

I am glad to see that they are highly rated, just might have to get one for myself now. :001_smile

+1 on using this brush for face lathering and getting it from WCS, you'll have it at your house in 4 days or less at under $12 shipped

I always face lather and my omega 49 in red comes into rotation whenever it feels right. It does just fine with either soaps or creams. I'm glad I've got it!

Don't forget the "3 little pigs". I've been using the Omega #50068 with MWF soap for awhile and have been very satisfied with it. This tiny brush will whip up some lather. Another brush I use is the Omega wide waist #40033, short loft, this is a real lathering machine. Larger diameter knots need to dry or they can get stinky (my experience, anyway). I think I'm going to pick up an Omega #21047, another smaller knot boar, and retire my old brush.

I'm waiting for my 1250, ordered last night after shipping off an Omega 11575 :thumbup1: as part of a PIF package.

I mainly bowl lather using a mortar bowl (textured inside great for breaking in brushes) with an Omega 49:biggrin1:, Vie long 13250 horse:thumbup:, and a no name horse from Turkey I received Monday (loft ~46, Knot ~24, but not very dense), also PIFed my Escali Badger (decent brush).

I eneded up going with the Semogue 1250...it finally arrived today, what a beautifully crafted brush...can't wait to get it broken in!

I just got the Pro 49 a couple of weeks ago. It is rather large for face lathering but I do it any way. It also whips a great lather in a bowl. I made a superb bowl of lather using the 49 and Tabac. Absolutely beautiful. It is a fine brush.
