Oliva Suggestions

I have been smoking cigars on and off since 1992 but have never made the jump to a robust cigar and have found the "perfect" mild cigar for me, the Oliva Connecticut. The question is, am I selling myself short? I like the draw, flavor, smoke and lack of lingering tobacco on my jacket. I am open to all input and suggestions you may have.

BTW- I have a small smoker close to me but they don't have much for inventory so it needs to be a 20 stick box I can readily get through them.

Cheers!

Oliva definitely makes a good cigar. I actually quite like almost all of their offerings. Depending on what vitola you prefer, you can venture out into some of their other lines if you feel like trying something new. I'd go with their G-series and then if you really want something more bold you can try the V's. My personal favorite is the V's in either torpedo or lancero.

If you're happy with what you're smoking though, why change it up?

I also mostly smoke mild/mild-medium cigars, in smaller ring sizes. A stronger cigar that I have been smoking on and off lately, is the H. Upmann 1844 Reserva. I find it very pleasant, but suggest that you get a few to try (order on-line, along with some others) before getting a box. My problem with the milder cigars, including the Oliva Ct. is that they don't have that much flavor, compared to darker, stronger smokes. A bit of a balancing act.

I'm a big fan of the Oliva Serie G Maduro. I recently bought a box of them and have been slowly working through them [I tend to smoke maybe once every two weeks]. To me, they're quite mild but have a great flavor profile. I'm terrible at describing these things, but if you get a shot at trying one don't be intimidated by the super dark wrapper.

Sorry, it is an Seris G, I will look for the Seris V as well.

IMO there are so many great cigars out there that its a shame to handcuff yourself to one stick. Besides the Oliva O and G maybe a E.P. Carrillo New Wave Conn. I'd try a few in the medium body range and see how it goes. Hard to tell you want to buy, not sure what they have in your b/m

Yes, I agree, the dark wrapper has put me off some. The smoker has many Oliva so trying one out this weekend should work. I smoke a box (20) yearly, about one every three weeks but would like to have one every week so a full box appeals to me.

Darker wrapper doesn't mean it's a strong cigar, they can be much sweeter and more coffee/chocolate type flavor notes.

Firewalker, if you have a humidor i can send you a sampler of a few different cigars if you want, pm me your address if interested.

OK, after looking through the humidor at the smoker, I think I want a box of Oliva Serie G Maduro Churchill Maduro. The feel, the wrapper, the smell... WOW! A quick look online shows a box of 24 for $90.00. The smoke shop has them for $16.00 each.

Thanks slayer, I will take you up on that offer!

Remember to keep those cigars humidified between 63% and 70%. If you Don have anything, pick up some tuberware with a humidification device.dry cigars are harsh as well as over humidified ones.

Excellent! I'm slowly working through my box, but I do quite enjoy them. Downside is that since I only smoke a cigar every couple of weeks, it's going to take me forever to go through them - so sampling of anything else will be at a minimum because I can't really justify the expense of buying more single sticks if I have a humidor stocked with 20 Olivas

I have a 50 Churchill plus humidor with 2 sticks in it right now, no problems keeping it at 65%.

Same deal here, a box will take a year for me unless I can get away every Saturday to the smoker. CigarBid, here I come! :001_cool:

Update:

So far I have had an Oliva G Connecticut, Marco V and this mornings Romeo Y Julieta Reserva Real. The Oliva was better than the Marco V but the RYJ was by far better than the other two.

I finally decided to buy a box of Oliva Serie G Maduro Presidente. We have a snow day today so I am going to sneak off to the smoker and have my first one. I hope it is a 2 hour smoke too.

Thanks to a very generous Nayslayer, I received a sampler of cigars today and tried a Gurkha this evening. Very nice, more robust than what I am used to but still very nice.

Shavious, PM me
