Hi Guys,
Just Thought I would share my moment of nostalgia with you. I converted to DE shaving in March after slowly converting to wet shaving firstly by acquiring a badger brush then laterally shaving creams and finally decided to ditch the fusion razor a couple of months back.
The reason I made the switch wasn't so much a lack of faith in the fusion razor, I was getting decent, albeit expensive shaves, with it. It was the fact I used to watch my Dad when I was young shaving at the sink in the bathroom. He would always cut himself then ivariably reach for one of many classic 80's aftershaves.
Even though I was only 5, I still remember the sink lined with bottles of Brut, Denim, Old Spice and Blue Stratos aftershaves which my Dad would pluck one from the sink and drown himself in one of the average colognes.
My first bottle of aftershave I remember buying when I was an adolescent 15 year old teenager, and it was Brut. I felt like a man and that I had arrived in the world, even though I hadn't really properly started shaving yet!
I've been getting consistently great close shaves without irritation over the last few weeks thanks to getting my technique down to a decent enough standard. I was walking through the supermarket last night after work when I stumbled upon the gents skin care department.
There on the shaving section were bottles of Brut and Old Spice aftershaves. My mind immediately wandered back to watching my Dad shave, and remembering the bottle of Brut I bought when I was younger, plumped to buy the Old Spice for nostalgia reasons.
It has to be said, I normally invest in expensive designer aftershaves, and buying the Old Spice was something of a break from the norm for me, so when I got home, proceeded to have a perfect shave. I went through my post shave routine before opening that bottle of classic cologne and liberally splashing it over my face.
Memories of Dad shaving came flooding back, and, thankfully, unlike my father, my lack of cuts made for a pleasant post shave splash on experience. Using aftershave isn't normally part of my post shave routine, but it was nice to follow in my father's footsteps
I shave at night, before going to bed, and must admit, the smell of Old Spice will be restricted to night time use and not used before going out to work, but it was a nice experience all the same.
Who knows, next time I'm in the supermarket, I might invest in that bottle of Brut!
Cheers
