Old "Old Spice" Replacement

What do you suggest as a substitute for the Original Shulton Old Spice. Is the Indian Old Spice the best alternative, or are there some other knock offs that are close. Are their local sources for the Indian Old Spice, or do I have to import it?

I still have a 1/2 bottle of the Original with the Square Rigger on the bottle. IMHO It is a lot better than the new "Classic Old Spice" and I would be willing to spend a little to get something closer to the original.

Most people use the one sold at Family Dollar. For $1.60, or you could get it at CVS for about $4 or $5. In either case look for the white bottle with the anchor emblazoned on it.

At Family Dollar it is called Ivy Club (I believe). I am getting low on the CVS brand so I need to buy some soon. I just decant it into a glass OS bottle.

There are two options:

1) Go to your local Family Dollar store and pick up a bottle of Ivy Club Spice aftershave for around $1.60 (also available at CVS under their store brand for $5). This product is made by Vi-Jon and is a pretty good copy of the Shulton OS. Although it's not an exact match, it's darned close and for that price many here go this way. There's even a social group dedicated to the wonders of Ivy Club here at B&B.

2) If price is no object, the Indian Old Spice (made and sold in India) is the way to go. Reputation has it that this is the same formula as the original, but I have no personal experience with it. Many members have found it through the website Desistores.com, but a quick check just now didn't turn any up for me. Perhaps one of you B&Bers who have gone this route could chime in with the correct URL.

Great advice. I've got my Indian Shulton from eBay, where the prices are quite reasonable.

On the other hand, I think that the worst thing about P&G's takeover are the plastic bottles and the awful things sold as part of the Old Spice range. To be honest, I don't think that the "Original" OS aftershave or cologne that's still avaiable from P&G is that bad. Not as good as the real original, but still pretty nice. The current body wash and deodorant (in original) is also worth trying.

I could not find it on Ebay right now. Anyone know what it costs with shipping when you order it from desistores.NET ? How long does it take, and is there a lot of red tape?

I agree that the new "Classic is not bad, but it is definitely not as good as the original.

I may have floated from DE to electric to cart and back again, but I have always (unless I've run out), I have always used Old Spice deodorant. Got to focus when I buy it though - CLASSIC, ORIGINAL. I often smell it to make sure, I've picked up the wrong red package before. :thumbdown

I got some P&G OS Lime EO mix on me now. to The Nid Hog!

I've not found any dollar store OS knock off here in Portland. I may have to get some from India. I was kind of put off by the shipping cost, but I paid $10 for P&G OS Cologne at Walgreens.

You can get it at Rite-Aid. White bottle, Rite-Aid brand, "Renewal after shave: spice scent." It's not as cheap, it's the same stuff.

Nice tip.

I found some Ivy Club at a dollar store in Seattle. I was thinking about going back to restock, as I'm down to a couple bottles.

Another route for the adventurous would be to snag some OS fragrance oil at saveonscents.com and make your own stuff. They also sell cologne, splash and bodywash bases.

I could really drive the wife nuts by making some Old Spice scented candles...

Thanks for that! I go by a RiteAid every day of the week. Today, I'll stop in.

Yes, which store? I'll send my daughter round. Ivy Club is the exact name? When you send folks to buy something that is not in their realm of experience, specific details are the crux to success.

As I mentioned before, OS in my wife's aromatherapy burner is wonderful! And even my wife said it was OK (the smell, not using her evaporator device). Just don't reload it while the candle is still lit. I flambéed the hair off of my hand once... :biggrin1:

The place didn't smell so good after that!
