O'Keeffe's Working Hands cream

Gents, I'm putting in a recommendation for Working Hands cream. It's non-greasy, no scent, you can apply and still use your hands and most importantly, works well. I bought a jar at a local hardware store after checking the O'Keefe's website's store locator. After application, it kind of feels like you have a protective powder layer on your hands. But it's non-obtrusive and non-greasy, kind of a neat feeling.

Off other recommendations, I tried Aquaphor and wasn't impressed. It was just like petroleum jelly that didn't absorb and you could do anything with your hands after application without leaving grease smears everywhere. It just didn't work for me. Similarly, thinner creams like Lubriderm absorb but don't offer much performance.

Anyone else have thoughts on Working Hands or other good hand creams?

Just read about Corn Husker's Lotion. I have never found anything that works. Tried Eucerin, which is supposed to be good, but it really doesn't do much. I need heavy-duty. I'm going to try Corn Huskers. Though now I'm curious about O'Keefe's. I'll have to check them both out.

I've used Bag Balm and gotten great results. It goes on thick and greasy but will absorb into the skin after a few minutes. When you put it on, just plan on sitting and watch TV or something while you knead your hands together and there is no more balm sitting on the surface.

You can find it at CVS drugstores, Amazon and a few other places. One 10oz can should last several months.

O'Keefe's is the real deal. I work with steel and regularly during the winter months, my finger tips split open. This annoys me and stings! Last week, they started splitting and only after 2 applications my splits are gone! Home depot stocks this stuff and I HIGHLY recommend this cream. It is non-greasy, unscented and relatively inexpensive. I also noticed, recently they have a cream for dry feet. Being a flip-flop wearer during the summer months this will be something I'll try too.

+1 on Corn Huskers.

And Thank You for the endorsement of O'Keefe's. I'll give it a try.

And, yeah, you're totally right on Aquaphor. Its nothing more than overpriced petroleum jelly.

got some Working Hands yesterday. used it bout 3 times so far and i like it a lot better than Corn Huskers. I'll say that CH absorbs quicker, but WH works better IMO. I keep CH at work because after i apply i can use my hands right away, while WH is at home where i can just relax after i apply and let it do it's thing.

Awesome Jason, glad to know it works for you.
indeed!

I've been wanting to buy some since I read this thread but what stopped me was not being able to find it anywhere locally and i just hate paying shipping charges. I finally wised up and used their locater on their website and turns out the Ace Hardware half mile from my house stocks it.

Toothpick, you really feel that you can't use your hands right away after using WH? One of the main reasons I use WH is because I can use my hands right away without feeling like I'm getting everything I touch greasy. The feel is a bit strange at first, but as someone else said, it's almost like a heavy powder feel afterwards, like you get more grip on things as opposed to less friction like with normal lotions. I'm totally sold on this stuff. After just over a week of using it my hands are finally not catching on every thread of fabric in the house and I can actually touch my face after a shave and feel how smooth it is. Before I couldn't feel a thing because my hands were so dry and cracky.

yes and no.

my biggest concern is I dont want to rub it off by using my hands right away. I want to give it time to soak in. But you are right after only a minute or two it leaves me with a very slight tacky feeling, like you described more grip. It is really the best stuff i've used. my hands are so dry i can see the spots on my hands that didnt get any WH on them. just random dry spots.

Once it drys the Corn Huskers doesn't leave my hands feeling like anything. So I don't get the sensation that "i'm just working off all the lotion". But even after i apply it i can still see dryness on the really bad spots.

with Working Hands if you get a complete coverage you wont see any dry spots.

The only one that I have found that works is actually the Jack Black hand cream. I have literally tried everything else, including prescription stuff!!

+1 my girlfriend's a knitter and works retail. Though working with wool helps w/ the lanolin, other fibers + her job leave her hands dry and cracked. She loves bag balm and the stuff lasts forever. Also, though it's thick and greasy, as the quoted poster said, it absorbs quickly, so if you have a few minutes to let your skin drink it up, you'll be fine.

Aveeno's intense relief hand cream is really nice. It absorbs pretty quickly and supposedly lasts through hand washings (assume normal hand washings, not something deep and cleansing that would pull the moisture out like mechanics soap to remove grease). I get super dry hands all year round (Winter is hell) and often have large spots where the skin flakes away leaving a noticeable spot that looks like i cut away a few layers. This stuff works wonders as a daily moisturizer. I've never seen it in as large pump bottle for my desk at work though. It can be found at most brick and mortar retailers or online, en example is: http://www.target.com/p/aveeno-intense-relief-hand-cream-3-5-oz/-/A-13344807
