What's new

OH NO !! What have I done ?????

So walking past a market stall and saw they had some "junky" bric a brac.

Stop in and have a closer look.

Found this and for the measly price had to buy it.

Now I know nothing about straights but the scales looked good ( you can't tell from the pics but there's a horn/bone pattern through them ) and clean and the blade looked pretty good as well ( to my beginner eyes ).

I've polished it up as much as possible but don't have tools so it's all been by hand. Probably need to do some more but too eager to post and get advice.

What can anyone tell me about it ?

On the blade it says
Gotta 120
and on the other side
Finest Silver Steel , Forged and Ground in Solingen Germany .

Oh no the start of another addiction ( oh well, suppose it was inevitable ) !!!!! :tongue_sm

My haemo spe......t is gonna hate me, straight razors and bleeding disorders probably don't go that well together...( even worse than DEs ) :tongue_sm

Any help greatly appreciated ( as always ) :blushing:

the blade is too narrow, i consider it honed to death at this point, even though it may shave.
i don't consider it suitable for beginner at all. it's likely rather unbalanced to start with, then the problems with the half of the blade missing....

even the scales to me are worthless with that weird pin hole. i doubt they have anything to do with bone, most likely it's plastic - imitation ivory.

sorry, but if you want a straight razor i'd say get something else.

That's cool, thanks for the feedback.

I actually liked the look of the "smaller" blade didn't even know it'd been over honed.

Teach me to do my research first :001_tongu

For the price I paid for it, it can sit in a cupboard. The scales are quite nice ( I never thought they were real bone/horn, just noted that had the pattern in them. )

Never know when some component of it may come in handy one day :001_smile

Every find can't be a diamond ( actually this ones probably more like a piece of coal then ):001_tongu

No way, those scales are cool! You can slip a new razor into the scales easily.

My thoughts when I first saw it. It needed a lot of cleaning but I could see what lay underneath and the blade looked in good condition ( even if it isn't whole :tongue_sm ) Bedazzled I tell you bedazzled. Much nicer than most of the other plain black scales that I could find and in great condition

The Logo isn't painted on it's inlaid and as I say there's a bone/ivory/horn pattern in it.

I'll store it away, I'm sure it'll come in useful somewhere to someone.

( Hey Leigton, got a shave ready razor and a couple of pin sets you're willing to ship down to Australia ?? :001_tongu )
