Ogallala Bay Rum: first use.

Bought a sampler from an Aussie supplier (noone in the US ships down under) and all I can say is...

"Wow"

TLOTH loves it. After a shave tonight I just slapped some on and I experienced no burn, lovely face feel, dried down non-greasy and just smells divine.

You guys in CONUS with access to more of the myriad of Bay Rum varieties are crazy lucky. I love this juice.

I have the Bay Rum and Sandalwood version and absolutely love the stuff – my favorite bottle on the shelf. It's the only thing I have that sticks around all day. Starts off a little spicy, but mellows to a kind of vanilla by mid-day.

Was yours the standard Bay Rum version? I'm really curious to try some of the other variations now.

Ogallala makes great products. This is a list Bay Rums in my regular rotation; note that Ogallala shows up four times in it:
Captain's Choice original
Ogalalla Bay Rum (AS) / Bay Rum Cologne (for some reason I think the cologne lasts less time than the regular)
Layrite's No. 9
Krampfert's Finest
Dominica
Gilbert Henry Bay Rum Balm
Ogallala Sage & Cedar
Ogallala Limes & Peppercorns
Masters

Then there are these two that see infrequent use, although the Sandalwood has the longest lasting scent of all the Ogallala AS.
Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood
C.O. Bigelow ASB No. 1401

How is he Captain's Choice? I've been looking into that one, but haven't had the nerve.

I think for daily use (at least) Captain's Choice (original) is so far out in front that second place barely matters. ShaverJoe taught me the "trick" of putting a drop or two of jojoba oil in it if I need more healing/moisturizing, which almost made anything else unnecessary (for me), but... I think for an irritating shave, Krampert's is the best. I have a bunch of others, some of which I regret and some of which I'll get to when I run out of the good stuff.

I too have been considering the Captains Choice. The Ogallala is great stuff though but wife isnt crazy about the smell. I just hate using an aftershave that smells like it ought to be a woman's perfume.

Ha! Mine's the other way - loves the bay rum and is a HUGE fan of Tabac. I was on the fence about Tabac but the night I first put it on and she went "mmmmmmm" I thought "ok...I'll giv this a chance".

I love the Ogallala aftershaves, but I find the same problem with the cologne. I mix the cologne and sandalwood to tone down the scent of the sandalwood. Captain's Choice is my other favorite AS and I have a bottle of his Cat O' Nine Tails on the way.

I haven't tried the Tabac yet. Guess it will be on the next order to see how it does with SWMBO. My favorite as of mow though is the Vostock A/S from QCS due to it's cooling properties. Behind that it is other cooling type aftershaves such as Osage Rub and Florida Water. Here in Louisiana, where December is still shorts and t-shirt weather, those A/S still get heavy use.
