NYC 747 (Air Force One) Fly-Over

Did any of our NYC members happen to witness this event? I've only seen brief clips of the 747 and accompanying fighter-jet escort, all of which made it difficult to discern how low the plane descended for the botched photo shoot. Curious if there are any first hand accounts lurking in the B&B shadows.

As an aside: I have wracked my brain trying to figure out how the President claims to have been completely ignorant to the fact that his private, always-ready, personal airplane could've been flying over NYC without his knowledge. It's baffling. :001_huh:

Maybe Obama is in cohorts with Al-Quaida and was testing the US' defenses.

Just kidding

EDIT: On a side note, it is great to see that our administration is really tackling "global warming".

Well, there are two identical aircraft that can be "Air Force One". Which one is actually Air Force One is the one the President happens to be on. I can understand Obama not being burdened with every detail of the status of his aircraft, but you can bet there are people with him most of the time whose job it is to know exactly where each plane is and what it's doing.

Whatever the circumstances, somebody screwed the pooch. A friend works in Manhattan and he was evacuated because of it.

I heard the ruckus, but was in doors.

Having been there on 9/11 I can say this is nothing other than outright stupidity. Unfortunately, it will not be considered the faux pas that the "mission accomplished" landing was. The W idiocy was just that, so is this.

A network of ppl are involved in an aircrafts flight, on the ground and in the air. Who wanted the photo at the expense of so many frightened ppl? One news report spoke of a man who was so frightened he ran 20 flights of stairs.

This was a huge debacle IMO. It was disrespectful to the people of NYC. Global warming and wasted tax dollar cracks aside, all they had to do was tell the NYC Mayors office and broadcast it on the news. I realize ther are security concerns with advertising when/where it will be, but a simple, "sometime today" broadcast might have reduced the fear.

Are you sure there are only two? :c6:

You are correct though whatever plane the CiC is on is Air Fore one be it a 747, a C130 or a Cessna if he is aboard it is AF1.

I didn't mean to imply Air Force One flew over NYC today, just that the President's 747 did. I know it isn't technically Air Force One unless he's on it, I just wanted to make the distinction that it was his private plane, not any ol' plane.

We got that.

It was just a dumb move by whomever organized it not to inform the NYC people.

If this would have happened under George W's watch, some people would have been screaming bloody murder. It just goes to show you that a man standing on the ground watching his rival up on a ladder painting, and pointing out every little spot he misses, sings a different tune when he finds himself up the ladder.

Because, unlike most Fox News viewers, he doesn't keep his personal vehicle on cinder blocks in the front yard.

The VC-25 aircraft that fly as Airforce One are based at Andrews Airforce Base, some thirteen miles from the White House. The aircraft in question was technically the backup plane. And like the rest of the aircraft in the 89th Airlift Wing (including the transport planes used to fly helicopters and limousines in advance of Presidential trips) it is regularly flown on training and other missions where the President is not a passenger. In fact it would be extremely unusual for him to be briefed on such a flight.

Some of us on the forum just don't get how to respect people I guess. I remember when things on B&B used to be discussed politely, in a gentlemanly fashion. Those of you that keep flaming and picking scabs, I really hope your days on the forum are numbered.

Unbelievable.

+1; Shane we are in a time that differing opinions are disrespected and ridiculed. I guess a lot of folks have their cars on cinder blocks since Fox News is the most successful cable news network in the US.

It's not even just that, no one is American anymore. We're just conservatives and liberals and the only thing important to either camp anymore is that the war between our own countrymen stays perpetual. The only thing that seems to matter anymore is fighting for an (R) or a (D). I'm just sick and tired of it. It's media-perpetuated and people fall into it all too easily. It's a sad state of affairs when four planes have to crash into the country for us to feel any sort of solidarity, and then it's only fleeting.

Regardless of how you vote, have some respect for dissenting views, people. The fight is old, tiring, and stupid. Come across like the gentlemen we all want to be and just be nice to each other. Is that so difficult?

You're not going to be warned again for this.

Keep it light, or stay the hell out of it.

I gave this person an accurate, factual answer.

If the people who imply in their question that the President is either stupid or lying can't take a facetious jibe as part of the response, then they really ought not to be playing with the big boys.

Conservatives can dish it out, but they sure as heck can't take it.

President Obama is the Commander in Chief, the Buck stops here, the CEO, and so on. I would be more impressed if he accepted some accountablity instead of dodging which he has often done. A low level flight over NYC was either known about by him or someone was grossly insubordinate.
