Numero Uno Shave

Thats it fellas!I just had my first straight shave. I loved it. I got my new sharp blade from Yohann and I like it. So now I think that I'll be asving my DE for traveling and kepp my straights for daily use. It is THE best feeling I have had while shaving. I feel it. Just did WTG for now but I'll get to the rest soon. Thanks B&B for bringing me into the fold.

Okay I do have some questions. First one. I noticed that I did almost all my shaving with the first inch of the blade. Also it is a spike blade and it left a nice straight cut/scratch along my cheek. Could my method be adjusted somehow?

Yes, adjust your blade position so that you are using the tip less. The tip on a spike point can really dig in if you aren't careful. It's great around areas that need accuracy. But for the cheek, you really want to use the middle of the blade.

Another question:

Do you really require the kind of accuracy a spike gives? Do you trim beard lines, goatee. etc, etc?

If not, then you may want to consider blunting, ever so slightly the spike point. You will still have tremendous accuracy, within a fraction of a mm (depending on how much you blunt it), but without the scratches on your cheek, etc.

All I have are side burns and I dont require a spike at all really. It just happens to be that my first shave ready straight is a spike. No I have already damaged one blade severely by using too much sanding pressure on the blade. So, how exactly does one safely blunt the tip?
And this time around I used more of the middle of the blade and had much more success.
I did however cut my throught pretty good because of the lack of dexterity in my left hand. I just need to get used to the feeling of a precision tool in my ol' second hand. Then I used my Alum and WOW!!! did that hurt. I guess I should have atleast rinsed the cut in cool water beforehand. But all in all number two was more successfull. Thanks for those tips so far.

congrats, youre one of the cool kids now.
if you want to mute your spike a little, just rub the tip very gently on the side of a hone, or on some sandpaper. Its tres thin and should wear away with little work at all.

Yup. Just the very, very tip of the edge.Like you are sawing at the hone.

You want to ease just the very last part:

Ahaa! I see now. Not the corner really, just the sharp edge. I think I'll try that here soon, as my left hand isn't so dexterious and I keep cutting myself under my right ear.. Thanks for the info.

Right.

You want to keep the end geometry, but just round off that little bloodseeker part of the tip...

Oh you bet ya! Definatly. I'll just be starting with simple shavers. The decorative ones for later. Buy and trade to beauty.
