not the way it should be.....

so today i bought my dad a Merkur HD 34c Razor thinking that he knew how to use it....he had an idea....so today i basically taught my father how to shave...it was slightly odd because he never taught me how to shave, some randomer in dublin tought me how to shave properly so i felt good showing him my knowledge and me and my old man had good bonding time i felt great we had a shave together, he only cut him seff like 2 times maybe so alll and all a sucess story!

Greetings from Chicago, Illinois!! Great story about your father, for all of you traditional shaving doubters out there, Hindsy's story is what it's all about...B&B is not just about shaving, it's about living a great life, shaving is just the common thread that binds us. It gives us a reason to help one another.

Congrats on the great time with your Dad. I am happy for you and proud of you for taking the time to teach your father.

Looks like you finally answered the question what came first the chicken or the egg.

Seriously that is a great story, and talk about bonding with your dad, a perfect opportunity.

Great story!
Truly!
This is the very first time I hear a son teaching his father how to properly shave!

I was using my travel kit one day (brush, soap, cheap DE) when I dad said "what are you doing?" I told him that I rather use this stuff than goo in a can, to his reply was "whatever works for you. " I tried teaching my brother but he's turned into a modern day quick fix type of guy.

You learned to shave in Dublin? Do you live in Ireland? Which part? I lived there for a few years myself.

i live in northern ireland in a place called londonderry...i learned how to shave properly in dublin cause i am a barber and i learned the the art o having properly there!. what part did you live in?

Sorry for the late reply. I've only ever passed through Londonderry, but I did live in Northern Ireland for a while. I lived in Belfast, Newtownards, and Portadown; as well as Dublin, and Mullingar, in the Republic.

I got my dad a 1952 SS (his birth year) and gave it to him. He got all teary eyed and really liked the present. But...It intimidated him because he hadnt used one in such a long time. I told him I would show him, but his pride gets in the way. Stubborn as hell. So...the razor he loves sits in a drawer and has never been used because he wont accept me showing him how to use it.

A little ironic eh?

My dad's trying to get a round tuit. He's wanting to find his old travel tech and Super Adj. and start wetshaving again. He says he'll look for them once he uses up his cartridge blades. He's also planning on finding my granddad's mug and brush. I think I'll gift him with som Arko shave sticks, Derby blades, superlather know-how, and Master Bay Rum AS.
