Not feeling the synthetic brush trend

I've got a couple badgers a couple boars. They range in price from $7 about $100; they all do the same fine job and I have no favorite.

I have never tried a synthetic brush and I have no interest. There are so many synthetic things in life these days, it just seems like a shave brush, even with their plastic handles, provides a nice respite.

If and when my collection wears out I'll be thinking about horse.

Anybody like me who just can't get excited over synthetic hair?

two words.......

Travel Brush.....

synth brushes dry almost instantly so are DA bomb as travel brushes.

I traveled for 3 months taking 2 badger brushes. NEVER AGAIN. They stayed wet and I had to keep the one I used out all the next day to dry.

This year it is 2 synths going not the badgers.

My interest in getting one... travel (same as poster above). especially since I travel to muggy places generally, so I suspect the brushes would tend to stay wet longer.

I can't get excited by them but I do see value for some as a travel brush or if your situation limits choice. For travel I have a complimentary Zirh badger they gave away years ago when you bought their brushless cream. Never did figure that marketing strategy out.

I prefer my badgers, I like my boar, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the experience with a synth. got a buddy headed to Afghanistan in a month and I've got one on order for him. mine is fixing to be my go to travel brush.

if you are traveling routinely, or headed to a more austere/tropical local... I would say unequivocally, get one. if you're working out of the house and not a vegan; badger/boar, whatever floats your boat. I haven't tried a horse, and might, just for the experience.

I bought a synthetic brush from The Body Shop when in London. I use it to dust the keyboard on my laptop.

I've got one of these as well. I thought it was pretty good at first, but as I have gotten accustomed to my Vie Long Horse, I really don't care for it much at all especially when trying to face lather. I've got a Muhle STF V2 on the way so we'll see how that goes,

Turtle, any synth brands you recommend? i was just looking at a Kent Silvertex.

I wont knock them as i have not used one but i do see your point about many modern things being synthetic and oer all not as good. Like many people here i got into wet shaving for the more natural ingredints, quality razors and soft badger brushes like the ones my dad used when i was a kid. Im sure there are decent synthetic brushes but for me nothing beats a pure badger. Its much like the digital analog debate i guess, for the record i still use my turn table every day...

Dave

muhle synthetic is my daily driver now, I use it almost 99% of the time. I have used older synthetics and this new edition is miles ahead of them. I highly recommend everyone to try it at least once.

Synthetics have come a long way and definitely make good travel brushes, as mentioned.
They merit consideration for home use, too.

I'm curious to know how synthetics perform, but I find it quite bizarre that there are descriptions like "generation 2.5" etc. for something that's such a niche product. What next, firmware updates?
(Don't laugh, not long ago the thought of upgrading the firmware in a mouse or keyboard was almost as ridiculous.)
