What's new

Noob purchases. is it a decent set-up?

Hi.
Had enough of the cartridge shaving nonsense after trying one of those terrible 5 blade King of Shaves jobs.
As I'm new to DE shaving, it was suggested to me to start out with the following, which I've bought:

Timor TTO
proxy.php

Personna Platinum Chrome DE Blades
proxy.php

Proraso Shaving Cream Jar Large 150ml Eucalyptus & Menthol
proxy.php

Art of Shaving Pure Badger Shaving Brush
proxy.php

I also bought a SS bowl & brush stand.
Is that ok & is there anything else I need to get started?
Thanks in advance.

That's nicer than what I started with.

Some other things to consider:

- aftershave lotion/splash/balm
- styptic pencil/alum block

Welcome to Badger and Blade.

The choice of shaving gear is very personal- what works for one guy might not work for the next at all. I haven't tried that razor and the Pure Badger brush may be a bit coarse on your face but your blades and Proraso are both highly thought of. I would add some kind of After Shave and maybe a Styptic Pencil or Alum Block and you will be good to go.

Have a look around- this place is a goldmine of information. Don't hesitate to ask questions- we were all new once!

Good luck!

Nice kit. You've got everything you need for a great shave. Just remember, practice practice practice, and go slow. As stated any good aftershave will do and you will need a styptic pencil. Most of all, enjoy your new kit and have fun with it. Thats what its all about here ya-know

Alum will also do, you can rub it over your face & not just the area where you nick yourself. Over all good feel.

I might also suggest a good aftershave balm like Nivea for Men. Feels really good on the face after a shave and cuts down on irritation.

That looks a nice setup - maybe get yourself a blade sampler as well as you may find other blades that may suit you more and these aren't too expensive. I would echo the Proraso splash as shown above. It's affordable and does a great job post shave and matches the Proraso green tub superbly as well.

You do need something post shave - I went without when I started but it's a mistake to ignore the post shave and the Proraso splash is my choice of post shave.

That's a much better setup than I had when I started DE shaving. You'll definitely want to get some after shave lotion/balm.
