Non-injector Eversharp SE?

Hi folks ...

no camera handy, so no pics, but a quick question ... I've just received a razor, built like a GEM Junior, but labeled Eversharp Safety Razor. I've tried to dig up some info, but searches of "Eversharp" both on and off these forums net a whole bunch of references to Schick injectors.

Anybody ever heard of this razor? Maybe point me toward some more info?

Thanks,

Ryan

Hello Ryan.. I am not an expert myself.. However, I do have a few Gem's in my collection.. Take a careful look at the back of the Razor and see if it say's Everready? If it does than it is a British Made GEM razor which would be identical to the GEM's here in the US+Canada. If it does say Eversharp than it's an injector and we would need to see some pics to get a closer ID. I hope this helps.

Actually, Ever-Readys were made in the US also. My go to SE is an Ever-Ready made in Brooklyn, NY. At one time, ASR produced SEs under the names Gem, Ever-Ready, Treet, and Star.

Here's a pic. It's not an injector, and it's not an Everready, and I'm not sure what to make of it.

The logo inside (I realize it's not the best picture, but so it goes) says "Eversharp" across the top, and "Safety Razor" across the bottom. There are no other markings, no patent numbers, anything.

Hi Kevin.. Yup I am stuck on this also.. I sent a PM to another member here who has a lot more knowledge on the GEM's hopefully he may shine some light on this mystery. By the way the Razor looks awesome..:thumbup1:

Interesting. Can't make out the writing at all in the photograph, but will take your word for it, obviously.

Before Eversharp bought out the rights to the Schick Injector, there's no reason they couldn't have had a line of SE razors, or perhaps they had Gem make a limited edition as a promotional item. It will be interesting if one of the collectors around here has definite knowledge.

The head and handle are definitely patent 1912 ASR. I've just never seen one marked Eversharp. Prior to their purchase of the rights to the Schick injector, Eversharp was a manufacturer of mechanical pencils. Perhaps they had a deal with ASR at one time.

Wow. This is just weird--I figured it was a pre-Schick thing, but if they made mechanical pencils and not razors, that gets a bit less logical ...

Anyhow, I'm going to go shave with it, and see where its real value lies.
