What's new

No matter what i do..

Hello everyone. I just registered and the reason why is because I am so desperate that I feel I had to actually find a forum about shaving since I seem to have such a problem.

Im 20 year old male. I hate hair. anywhere. If i could tolerate shaving more. I would keep my legs and arms shaved 24/7 but since my those take about an hour or two to do...i don't get around to them to often. But I do shave my downstairs. My abs, chest and of course face and neck.

My abs and chest hair is very little. And my face..well it gets pretty bad after about 3 or 4 days.

But my problem is. No matter what I do..whenever I shave chest or face...I always get very irratated skin. There are some bump breakouts on my neck and whenever i rub my hand along my skin and face it hurts. And same with my chest. It looks like i got shot with a million super small bbs or something. I wash my face and body with a face / body wash before. Using warm water. Apply gillete sensative shaving gel to the regions and let it sit for TEN minutes. Just bought new fusion blades for my razor. Popped it in, brand new and I can feel the damage being done just by using it. Its rough on my face to take my hair off. I feel like I have the thickest hair alive. And it never does it it close enough to where I am "smooth" no matter what I do theres always prickels behind, right after shaving!? I mean i thought i was supposed to be smooth for at least an hour or two after..guess not.

After shaving I put on Nivea for men Post shave balm. Smells great...but...not doing the job I guess.

I thought the reason we shaved was to look better...not worse. Does anyone know how to not get irratated skin from shaving? Is it the razors...is it my gel. is it what I'm not putting on that would help? or is it just my skin that sucks balls.these are the times when i'm really glad I don't have a girl friend

Welcome to B&B!

Irritation can be produced by poor skin prep, by overshaving, by too much pressure, and by poor blade angle. The fusion more or less protects you from worrying about blade angle, but you still have to worry about everything else. You might do better with a DE or SE razor, or even by stepping down to a cartridge with two or three blades insead of five blades. The fusion cartridge passes five blades over your skin, which is almost guaranteed to produce irritation via overshaving.

Hmm i did not know this about the 5 blades. That may be my problem. Is that rolling razor any good? That is only 3 blades. And I don't know what a DE or SE razor is so I'm going to look that up right now.

Have you tried any other shaving creams/soaps? Its possible there is something in the cream you are using that is causing or contributing to irritation.

Hey there, sounds like your in a similar boat to where I was a couple years ago. I'd recommend spending a bit of time reading some of the basic guides and information on this forums to familiarize yourself with the nomenclature and ideas behind getting a better shave.

I don't mean to sound argumentative here but IMHO it seems the part about you shaving almost everywhere might be a bit in excess. I've only ever heard rumor that some guys will shave their whole body for the sake of a sport such as swimming. Is the hair on your arms, chest, legs, etc really that bad? I mean, does it tend to grow really long or hairy? I only ask because I have known guys with unsightly hair on their back, etc. Otherwise all that hair is pretty normal so maybe it would be better in the long run to just grow comfortable with it. Especially if shaving it causes that much irritation.

Past that, keep in mind that even with a different razor & cream if your shaving a large area it will tend to dull your razor quicker. A dull razor will in turn create more irritation. So besides shaving less of your body the best bet would be learning to recognize WHEN your current blade is becoming too dull and either swapping it out OR maybe using a different razor for different parts.

For instance, I tend to use my DE with a feather blade on my face and an SE (Either an adjustable injector or TREET razor) on my neck and head. This way the DE, which is the only one I've found best suited for my face, stays sharper longer. Even tho I could use it on my head as well the SE blades do that part just fine, cost less, and are easier to use.

And I don't know what a DE or SE razor is so I'm going to look that up right now.

DE = Double edge, SE = Single edge.....Look up safety razors and you'll find it. Go to the B/S/T portion of this forum to find pictures and ones for sale. And your best first move would be to go to youtube and look up Mantic's videos on shaving.
