honestly it depends on what im doing, tough to write letters with a big ole italic nib, but then its hard to get all fancy with a fine nib too, but i seem to be one or they other these day i dont much have need for a medium or broad, but a big broad italic I love, and the stub on my MV looks great for signatures and larger written letters

so put me down for fine, stub italic, broad italic and huge italic

I began with fountain pens in the 60's enjoying Medium nibs primarily, but I've found myself gravitating to Fine in the present day. Partly, I think because F nibs today are broader than they used to be and paper is poorer.

I voted EF. Likely because I have only used poor quality paper. I suspect I would like a broader nib, fine, on better quality paper.

I put fine because I generally like to be able to write with a fairly fine line. The pens I pick up most often are labeled fine or extra fine, but these can mean different things depending on where and when the pen was made, and by whom. I like my Esterbrook 2442 nib, the "Falcon Stub", which is technically a fine left oblique stub, but as far as I'm concerned is just a very smooth writing fine nib.

As you gain experience, though, you like to have other choices around, and there are times when a broader nib, an italic, or something more exotic, may be the right tool for the job.

I put medium, but I think a qualification has to be made about eastern vs western pens (or maybe just different pens in general). My Pilot Metropolitan in medium is finer than my Parker 51 and B&B Essential are in fine.

I voted broad stub, because its currently my favorite all around writer, but I also us fine and medium nibs for paperwork.

I voted other. Medium Crisp Italic !!

Darn . . . I'm very happy with the stub nib in my Franklin Christoph. Now you went and mentioned the Medium Crisp Italic again. I recall your story about desired scratchiness. How can I be wanting to try this so soon? A very slippery slope, time to strap on the skies.
