Newby Questions About Church's Shoes

I recently bought a used pair of Church's loafers. With application of shoe cream and several applications of Saphir wax they have cleaned up nicely. My questions are several: (1) I understand that Church's makes shoes in at least two price ranges. Would these be from their cheaper range or their better range? (2) What do you call this style of shoe other than loafer? (3) How do you decipher the markings inside the shoe other than the size? Is some of the writing a model number? (4) Does anyone have any idea the age of these shoes? As nearly as I can tell nothing in this style is currently made. Thanks to all for your replies. These are my first British shoes and I must say that the quality is very impressive.

Those look like calf skin so not polished binder (though I have no problem with that, I have many Church's shoes in polished binder and also in calfskin). Your shoes are 11.5 F (UK sizing) and I want to say the 108 Last? The final line is usually the model name but I'm not sure if that model is still produced or not. Nice pair of shoes, though!

MichaeltheRomanHistorian,
Thank you for the information you provided. From what I've been able to read, I believe you are correct about the last being the 108. That last is still being used for certain shoes in current production. I would still like to know the approximate age of these shoes. The pictures show the shoes lighter in color than they really are due to the flash of the camera. They are quite a bit darker brown without the flash. The leather is very supple and just feels quality both on the shoe leather and the linings. I'm happy with the $52 purchase.

Lloyd,

I think you could e-mail Church's and ask (I know Edward Green and C&J have done so for me when I asked). Just send them all the information in order of the lines and see what they say. They might even be able to give you a date of production given the numbers inside the shoe. Make sure you get some leather lotion and a good cream polish! That is a very nice way to spend $52! :)

Michael

Michael,
I took your advice and found out from the good folks at Church's that the shoe model is the Lymm which in no longer in production. They were made in 2005 and were from their normal collection.
