newbie advice please. paddle type strop or belt ?

Evening gents !
Would appreciate some advice. I am looking to be trying with a straght razor, currently DE shaving. I have been seeing paddle strops on sites and the belt types. Which do i get ? i keep reading that in correct tension/ method on the belt type burrs the edge over, so is the ridged paddle type better ?

If you're new to straights I would recommend a regular strop with a linen backing from Tony Miller but if you can't wait until Tony gets back up and producing more variety a filly from Ruprazor to hold you over. A Tony Miller strop is worth the wait if you want one he is not producing at the moment. To answer your question about rolling the edge, yes it is possible but with anything you do with a straight, it takes practice and patience.

I wouldn't get into paddles unless you want to experiment on edges with different pastes. Right now you just need to know the fundamentals. I've been with a straight razor for 2 years and barely even break out the paddle.
