New York Shaving Co.

I dont see a review on The New York Shaving Co. Brushes. Has anyone here bought one? How is it? Is it a knock off? Is is a good brush? I have read some bad stuff about there razors and there hair cuts but not much about there brushes and stands.

Forgive me if this has already been asked. If so please send me the thread and ill delete this and read there.

It is not one of the more well known brush manufacturers on B&B. That's about all I know. They do offer a healthy discount to us, and they aren't completely off the radar. If you try it out, let us know!

They look like rebranded Vulfix and Edwin Jagger brushes to me.
I thought that same thing... will be in NY next week for a few days, was thinking about stopping in here for a shave so I'll see if the staff has any insight on the origin of the brushes

Um look at yelp before you go...
I did and while there are definitely some up and down reviews, a lot of them seem to be aimed at bad haircuts. If I do end up going and feel like I'm getting a bad shave, I'll definitely let them know and have them either stop and sharpen up their edge, or just quit completely.

My only experience with NYSC brushes is with the "Traditional" synthetic model. At the time I wrote my impressions, I had not used a synthetic brush made before 2011. Since then, I bought a 2005 Muhle synthetic. Of the 30 or so synthetics I've owned to date, the NYSC brush ranks dead last.

Those readers familiar with my reviews know that I try to be fair and complete in my analysis. This review was painful to write because I found very little positive to say about it.

New York Shaving Company Traditional Synthetic Brush 21mm

"Although I never used a synthetic shaving brush prior to 2011, this brush clearly reflects what I read in my initial research into synths. It does not represent new-generation synthetic brushes. It is unattractive and has an artificial look. Its fibers are heat treated and have micro-zig-zags with a truly artificial and unattractive appearance. The brush feels like the cheap, clipped-boar brushes that come with under-$20 starter kits. The NYSC brush is unlikely to soften or improve over time, and the worst example of post-2010 synths I came across in my testing. This is why synths had a bad reputation."

To be fair, it has been 20 months since I wrote the review, and NYSC may have upgraded the brush. I would be happy to review it again if NYSC contacts me with the news.

well if you're in ny there are many places that can give a good shave. I like the hole in the wall spots in midtown. Use yelp for reviews.
I highly suggest you stop by Pasteurs pharmacy. 2 locations. 1 on 63rd and Lex I believe and the other in midtown on 34th off Park Ave. small pharmacy store that carries a great amount of shavng soaps, creams brushes, razors, blade packs, and male grooming products. Almost all the scents of Clubman as well. And higher end a/s , colognes. I come here to sample the TOBS and DR Harris a/s and colognes. And the 3 T's of course.
here's the location by Macys
