New vs. Old Muhle Pinsel Head

I have a Muhle-Pinsel (MP) razor with an olive wood handle and an Edwin Jagger (EJ). The MP has the old-style head and the EJ has the new-style MP head. You can tell the difference by looking at the knobs in the outer part of the head that holds the blade in place. The old head has knobs that are rounded on the ends while the new head has knobs that are flat on the ends. (See the picture at the right side of http://www.muehle-shaving.com/shop/classic/razors/77/8/1) I think that the new head gives a great shave; close, but without irritation. IMO, he old head gives a terrible shave. It gives me a lot of irritation and the blade angle is such that I need a number of passes to cut off whiskers. Luckily, the new head will fit my olive wood handle.
The bottom line is that, if you have a MP handle that you like, but, like me, you don't like the old head, you can buy the cheapest MP or EJ razor with the new head and use it with your old handle.

That's a question of YMMV I presume. The old head (old R89) was aggressive and the handle was heavy. That's what I like in a DE. Sure, if I wasn't careful I would end up like a Swiss cheese but at least there were no hesitations with the beast! So much of a beast that I sold it because it was a notch too aggressive.

I have mentioned on other threads that I have had the opportunity to shave with both the Merkur and the Muhle heads on two different EJ razors. I have no problems with my original Merkur head on a Bulbous Lined handle. I was fortunate to have one with none of the quality issues that were being commonly mentioned before the change to the Muhle head. I developed a preference for the Muhle head after being able to compare them objectively over several weeks. The new head came on an EJ Georgian handle which feels great in the hand, but is very light in weight when compared to the all metal EJ Bulbous lined. I did get good shaves with both, but I have gotten consistently better shaves with the Muhle head on the bulbous handle.
