What's new

New to WetShaving

My setup so far is

Derby Blades
Feather Stainless Safety Razor
Crabtree and Evelyn pure badger travel brush
Crabtree and evelyn Nomad soap
Co Bigelow Shave cream

I don't really use a aftershave, I just take a cold shower afterward

Much less iritation than my Fusion by gillete however I might not be getting as close a shave.

I do one pass with the grain, anymore and I get irritation.

Hi George Clooney:

Welcome to Badger and Blade! You are going to love this place.

One suggestion for you is to purchase a blade sampler pack from one of our many vendors. They are reasonably priced and you may find a superior blade to match your excellent razor and skin type for a close, irritation free shave. Also, read the wickis and stickies and watch the videos from Mantic59. I learned a whole lot from reading B&B posts, wickis and stickies and watching the Mantic videos.

Again, welcome to B&B, enjoy your shaves and have fun!

Don

Once you get your technique down you can do more passes without irritation and you will get a closer shave welcome to b&b

Thanks for the warm welcome. I should have gotten the sample pack however I got a 100 derby pack since I'm Turkish (The GDP rose by 10 cents due to my purchase) :thumbup1: But when I order a new brush I will get the sample pack.

I also have a gillete super adjustable from my father however I might have taken some plating off by cleaning it in a solution of CLR.

I must say my favorite part of wetshaving so far is the scent and feel of the lather

It's funny that you mention Mantics videos. Watching his videos is what got me into wetshaving

Welcome to the good ship B&B. Take a stroll on the promenade deck and enjoy the voyage. :thumbup1:

Always remember, relax but be vigilant when you shave!

Alright, just for comparison safe I busted out the Gillete Fusion with the Vibrator and the Can of Deodorant goo. I must say not horrible. Going from Crabtree and evelyn nomad scent to car airfreshner scent was a little difficult. There seemed to be tugging. My neck does not feel horrible but does not feel as good as when I do it with a safety razor, it could have done a better job on the cheeks though

Well george, It took me a few weeks to get everything down right. Now that i got my blade sampler pack, i found that different blades do make a difference.

Try Bestshave.net (they are in Turkey and I've got the impression you are too). Lots of 5-blade packs.

If I were you I'd try Astras (both kinds), SuperMax Super Plats, Sharks, Treet Dura-sharps and the PermaSharps in the cardboard box.

If you're in the US, try West Coast Shaving for a sampler pack.

Welcome to B&B George ;) Stick with it, and as time passes and your technique improves, so will your shaves. For me, I had to learn to use proper blade angle and absolutely no pressure with a DE. I remember using a cartridge razor and only using one WTG pass, but with A LOT of pressure. It's just the opposite with DE's...no pressure and multiple passes and the result is a far closer and more comfortable shave.

One thing that has stuck with me from Mantic's vids is that the first WTG pass is for beard reduction, not complete removal of hair. Good luck ;)

Welcome Mr. Clooney,

Starting out you maybe better off sticking with one blade while you work on technique. I know a variety pack recommendation seems to be conventional wisdom, but can one really judge different blades when the larger issue is technique? Just saying.

Besides, it sounds like another 100 Derby's could do much for the economy!

Enjoy
