What's new

new to straights . in antique store right now . Presidential Straight by whistle/

Im new to straights .... actually been looking to purchase my first....so I am in an antique store right now and holding an ivory color handle "presidential" straight with a very clean blade, original box and it has what appears to be acid etched pictures of Lincoln, and two other presidents on the blade..... any idea if this is worth anything? Mainly worth using? It has zero rust or pitting.

Edit ... its made by Thistle Cut. CO. in Fremont and has Lincoln, McKinley and Garfield on it.

Without pictures it is hard to say, but if under $15, no rust and minimal hone where, I would might pick it up. I think those Presidential razors were a novelty item, however, most vintage razors are good shavers.

Looks good, but I would not give even half of what they are asking.

Hey is that an Ostrich Egg?

Thistle is a good name and that's a cool looking razor. The scales are nice too. But it's not a $165 razor, to me. I'd pass on it and look to Whipped Dog for your first straight.

nice razor but a crazy price. 20 to 30 usd is a reasonable price IMO. that is being generous. Thistle is a very good brand IMO too.

actually both the shop owner and her son were both wreaking of some marijuana when I walked in.....their shop was next to a medical dispensary. :)

The only vintage razor worth 160.00 would be something other than that razor :).

I would cheerfully go $20. Maybe $25. $30 only if there was a really hot chick trying to sell it to me. $165? Yes, they are high. In both meanings of the word. I do like those vine and leaf scales, though.

as for antique shops they are usually ignorant of what they have .. and if it looks flashy (even totally ruined) they will pop a crazy price just because it looks cool. But then again you may find some total gem for a dirt cheap price, because its in black scales or something simple :)
