New shave new blade?

Anybody on here that replaces their blade every single shave? I was going to do the 3-4 day thing but realized given the cost of these things, and what my intentions are (clean up my ingrowns and other irritations while getting a closer shave) that having a fresh blade could be handy. Thus, I had decided to alternate between installing and removing a blade every shave, so I would have two 3 pass shaves per blade.

Today was my second shave on said blade (Astra SP) and my second time doing an ATG pass on my cheeks. Last time, 2 days ago, it worked great with BBS feel and zero irritation. Today it wasn't so easy and seemed to irritate and pull slightly more. Now given my very very limited experience with a DE razor it could be technique, but it could also be the blade.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and uses a fresh one every time?

If my second day were inferior to the first I would certainly do just that. I think you should find out what day presents a slightly inferior shave and then change the blade one day earlier.

I get three days from most blades and 6 or 7 from the Med Prep/Labs.

depends a lot on your beard type i say. some guys have thin beards and using the same blade 3-5 times is a normal thing. I have a thick beard and prefer a fresh blade for every shave. there isn't a right or wrong. If the blade doesn't feel good on the 2nd shave by all means swap that sucker out for a new one. I've heard of blades being smoother the second or third time but i've never found one. well I did find one actually....the Schick Injector was the only razor/blade that I got more than 2 shaves out of. I took it to 4 and could have got more im sure.

When it comes to DE blades I want a fresh one every time. heck, if I want to use a new blade for each side of my face then darn right i'm going to.

I have a pile of carbon steel blades that are one and done. Stainless or platinum I ride anywhere from 4-7, occasionally up to 10 shaves.

astra SP on tryablade.com is 15 cents per blade, 365 blades would only cost you 57 dollars including shipping, or less than two months of carts. honestly your blades would have to be almost a dollar a blade to come close to spending the same money as carts per year. and that estimation is shaving every single day for a year. hell 1095 blades would cost 167 dollars or about 13 dollars per month, 1095 blades would be enough for a new blade three times per shave, if you shaved with 3 passes per shave and shaved every single day for a year. you would have to use 2,400 blades per year to equal carts, or 6.5 blades per shave :w00t: talk about a fresh blade, so switch a blade up to 6 times per shave. have fun with it, the best thing is see if a new blade every shave works well for you, if it does, awesome, if it doesnt, oh well. personally i get about 3 shaves or about a week per blade, i shave every other day and skip the weekends.

For years I used to swap out the blade whenever I had a bad shave. And that was often. Since joining B&B, I have come to realize that the biggest factor in a bad shave is not the blade, but how I'm shaving.

I must be doing something wrong because I'm getting at least 15, 3-pass shaves with my feather and personna blades. I only change when I feel the blade is not as smooth.... I do rinse the blades off thoroughly after

Same here, now that I understand the role of proper shave prep and shave technique. But I had to undo years of ingrained habits.
